Lunox & Astro - Forever & More ft. REKS
Artist: Lunox & Astro
Producer: Statik Selektah
Album: TBD
Label: Inscape Records LLC
Though Massachusetts may never become as renowned a hip-hop state as New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania, it does boast a thriving underground scene. On Lawrenceville natives Lunox & Astro‘s Booth debut, Forever & More, they’ve enlisted the help of a few Bay State faves. In between the duo’s emotionless, Mobb Deep-esque verses, Mr. Grey Hairs (Reks) jumps on board to serve up his own brand of lyrical slaughter. Fellow Lawrenceville native Statik Selektah is arguably the biggest contributor to the cut’s mood—how many other producers do you know who can pull off a sample of Sloan’s Nothing Lasts Forever Anymore? Those tempted to dole out low ratings due to a belief that “gangster rap is dead,” should consider this: if every emcee could spit such high-caliber lyrical ammunition, would the subgenre have perished in the first place?

Sleeper track right here. That production was meeean, along with the chorus. Classic formula for a hit record, I like the dark vibe here. Throw it in the rotation.

The hook has some heat and the dark production match these dude's lyrics. The beat is a little repetitive but I can throw it in rotation

I rock with Reks and Statik Selektah has been on fire lately. I've never heard of Lunox & Astro before, but I didn't feel the need to look 'em up on Myspace after listening to this track.

The beat is a little too plain fo me and noticeably repetitive ... but its paired with better lyrics... so i can throw dis one for Rotation ...

Can we all agree that Statik Selektah needs to receive some due credit for being the most unheralded producer of the past year or so? This cut is set up nicely by SS, so its really no wonder that Lunox and Astro do what they do over it. Nice record.

SS always deliver hot production: some old school flavor with a fresh approach (I'm feelin the percussion details), plus a nice sample! The repeating sound could be better though (less)...
Reks breaks the monotony, but the other two... it's ok for a song, but a whole album like this wouldn't survive in today's hip hop filled with crazy-good, dynamic and expressive flows. I'm not talkin autotune, lol, natural emotion! Fell the words, they were not bad. |

Gotta give some props to my MA boys right here. Pretty good production and solid flows from everyone. Reks was the highlight for me.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm just not feeling it. I didn't like the chorus at all...i assume they were using a voicebox on that part and it just doesn't sound right. Everybody just can't use it. Reks wasn't bad on here, but everyone else in my opinion just didn't cut it. The production isn't interesting and it really bores me. Overall, it won't get a second listen or a high rating from me.

Agreed, djyoshi. Definitely needed more energy to flow over some very nice production from Selektah. This isn't bad, and is definitely being put in rotation. But next time, they next time, they need to sound a lot less amateur.
