If you’re craving some new tunes from a rapper who’s been around the block a few times, you’ve hit the jackpot. A “bad mother-shut your mouth!” by the name of Lucky Dice has stepped into the Booth to give us a lesson on what he calls Shafting. This album inclusion finds the 20-year hip-hop vet flowing over a beat borrowed from Isaac Hayes’ classic Shaft Theme (courtesy of producer Blaze P), waxing poetic about his two favorite pastimes: hustling and women. The B-more native’s “flashy, fresh and fly” rhymes may not break new lyrical ground, but his confidence on the mic can’t be denied, and the instrumental’s old-school vibe makes his stunting all the more infectious. Dice clearly isn’t just Blowing Smoke when he says he’s always on his grind. For more from this underground mainstay, check out his latest street album, available for purchase from his MySpace page. In addition, fans should watch out for his next project, Sound Scan, set to drop sometime in summer 2010.

In all the years I have been reviewing new music for potential feature at our site, I cannot believe I've never come across another record that sampled the Shaft Theme (RIP, Issac). Producer Blaze P did a great job retaining the catchy element of the original, without butchering it.

Lucky Dice sounds nice over the retro beat, but I cannot really connect with his delivery. I want to believe what he is saying, but the way he does it doesn't make me a believer. I could be wrong - maybe.

RIP Isaac Hayes, but the lyrics on this are forgettable, and the chorus is almost painful. Shut your mouth! What, I'm just talking about Shafting. Ah, we can dig it.

Agree with @Nathan, verses/hook are a bit too lackluster compared to the caliber of the production. Okay at best.
