If you’re a longtime reader with a terrifyingly good memory, you may recall that, way back in January ‘08, a young emcee named Loot stepped into the Booth with a joint centered around showing off his Fresh wardrobe. Fast-forward more than two years, and the NYC native’s attitude has become a little less carefree; on new single Mad World, he takes a look at the senseless suffering and struggle surrounding him and concludes that life ain’t just unfair – it can be downright insane. Ralph Random mans the boards, flipping Gary Jules’ cover of Tears’ for Fears’ joint of the same name as the headliner paints a sobering lyrical picture of poverty and strife. On the guest tip, Mistah F.A.B. proves yet again that he’s much more than just a ghost rider of whips, expressing his compassion for the inner-city’s all-too-numerous “lost souls. Fans will be able to hear this cathartic banger and more on Loot’s The Get You Some Project, set to drop this fall. In addition, those who purchase this Mad World on iTunes can send a screenshot to republica(at)lootmusic.net for a chance to win one of three brand new pairs of Republica sunglasses!

The original was a classic, the remake Richard mentioned in his blurb was excellent, a subsequent remake by Booth favorite Novel (last year, not featured) was sobering, heartfelt and a wonderful change of pace, and this new Loot version is catchy and different enough to be considered enjoyable without sounding overdone. Did that make sense?

Like Adele's Hometown Glory, this is one of those samples you wouldn't expect to hear on a hip hop record, but as soon as you do you realize it fits perfectly. This is absolutely excellent - Loot comes with it, and FAB, who I contend is sadly underrated, proves he can get intelligent as capably as he can get dumb.

Honestly I've never heard of Loot but his work here was solid. As for Fabby Davis Jr., the former Freestyle King of Oakland proves his recent body of work is much more intelligent than the cuts that had all of us in the Bay goin dumb a few years back (listen to his deeper tracks on 'Son of a Pimp' for earlier evidence of lyrical dopeness). In agreement with Z, this was enjoyable but not overdone. Blend this with Novel's version, which would correlate well with F.A.B. considering he would have much to say about the Oscar Grant situation, and make it a classic? I think so.

First of all I think this is probably the best I have heard from Mistah F.A.B. ever. But Loot's flow is sickening and the production was great.

A great song and a lot better than what I thought it would be. To me it is still ranked below the great version Novel did, but this is another great song using Mad World.

Gotta say I almost shot this down ASAP on the title (I am so sick of Mad World covers). Novels was the end all be all of the covers, but I stand correct and am pleasantly surprised and this is so tight.
