On Movin’ On, a stand out selection from her latest album release, Cleveland songstress Lolah Brown poignantly announces on her second DJBooth feature that she isn’t one to mess with. While producer James Jones’ bouncy, kick-drum driven production may seem to be a marker of a light, lovey-dovey tune don’t be fooled. Lolah sets the tone for Movin’ On with a catchy hook, belting out, “I’m movin’ on. The love is gone/ Cause life goes on I won’t be needing you oh.” Rounding out the effort is a love-centered verse from guest artist Bravo, who adds a bit of a hip-hop edge to the record. Movin’ On can be found on Lolah’s Black Lily album, which was released for free download on Okayplayer last month.

This selection further proves that the genre lines between hip hop, R&B and soul are all but gone. The production is vintage hip hop, but the bounce of the beat plays perfectly for Brown's soulful vocal. Powerful.

It's such a catchy record that i found myself demanding another listen. Lolah is an artist who is growing at a rapid pace. She is finding that she her powerful soulful vocals are able to handle the power and bounciness of hip-hop beats. Also impressed with what Bravo did on the track. Cant overlook him in the mix of things. For me, when it comes to Lolah Brown it's just a matter of time.

This was OK... Pretty strong voice by Lolah Brown. Bravo's lyrics were average. Decent beat. A cool throwback R&B sound...
