Not every prison is made up of concrete and bars. For some artists being trapped in a record deal can feel like a sentence, and that was exactly the case for the always vocally sweet Lloyd, who was recently set loose from his Murder, Inc. contract and signed with Interscope. To celebrate the occasion Young Goldie has released his new track, the aptly titled Set Me Free. Produced by J$Mil, who takes a classic retro-swing song and transforms it into a modern banger, Set Me Free is first and foremost driven by Lloyd’s lightt vocals, which take on a decided swagger here. Come to think of it, for guest artist Mystikal the prison metaphor is literal as we get to hear his still grimy voice put in work for one of the first times since he was released following a six-year bid (he sounds exactly the same as you remember). So how about it Booth? Is this track liberating your eardrums, or feeding them prison chow? Either way we can now expect a new album from Lloyd in the near future (hopefully). Free at last!

Nearly every song on the Young Goldie EP was better then this track, though its still a pretty solid track. Lloyd was the highlight, he sounded good over some nice production. I could of done without Mystikal's screaming on this, he wasnt needed and if anything drag my rating down.

Sorry but I don't see what's the big deal about this. I always love Lloyd's voice and he's the only thing that carries my interest. I never was that big of a fan of Mystikal, so I'm not that pumped to hear like others might be. Only because it's Lloyd, the song's decent and not competely wack.

Lloyd always does the best hip-hop collaborations. You ft. Wayne, the remix, Get It Shawty remix. I knew Mystikal was coming back, but I never checked out his music. He was an interesting, currently high-profile addition, but I can think of a lot of artists who would have done better.

Damn! J$Mil spazzed out on this ish. Heavy on the bass and a sampled riff that makes the track impossible to not groove to.
On the other hand, Mystikal showcases a flow that proves that even with his boisterous screaming he is the weakest link here. Someone needs to REPLACE that guest slot ASAP!! |

It looks like it's going to be (nearly) unanimous. Lloyd's developing into a r&b force to be reckoned with, and the fact that he can go in on a soul track like this, and a radio hit like Bedrock, just proves his versatility.
And I feel like I stepped in a time machine with Mystikal, he sounds exactly like he did six years ago. Make em say eeeehhhhh!!!! Oh, and did Lloyd really call himself a "manimal"? That's hilarious.
