I know what you’re thinking: “A new track from Lloyd, and it’s titled Lay It Down? That’s gotta be about getting it on.” Not so fast – in actuality, the R&B singer’s first single as a Zone 4/Interscope signee finds him instructing listeners in the proper technique for laying sod on your front lawn. OK, just kidding; it’s about sex. Here, Polow Da Don mans the boards, cooking up a beat laden with slow-jam synths as the Young Goldie crooner persuades his girl to lay her head on his pillow so he can get down to business. On the vocal tip, Lloyd excels as usual, energetically delivering seductive (and kinda hilarious) lines like “You’re lookin’ at me girl, and I ain’t talkin’ bout the look in your eyes.” and “Don’t be bougie ‘cause tonight I need a hood girl.” On the back end, he even treats listeners to a little Echo-style yodeling. Is this bedroom burner appealing enough to earn Lloyd’s fourth studio album, King of Hearts, a place on store shelves sooner than later? Only time will tell but, as always, Booth readers are welcome to speculate….

 After lending his hook talents to roughly 5 emcees over the last few months, its about time Lloyd started saving his catchy vocals for himself!
"Lay it Down" marks a new period in Lloyd's career - an entrance into legit bedroom burner status (talk to Nathan about this, he could go on and on about it). This is pleasant on the ears and I am positive waves of female listeners will feel the same way.

Great joint from Lloyd. Him and Polow should work together for the whole album. Polow might even be a better producer for R&B beats than rap ones(Usher's and Keri H.'s beats), the production even closes out nice.
Lloyd's only competition in the game is veteran Usher and it-guy-of-the-moment Trey Songz. I see him taking over in the future. |

This is REAL R&B! Lloyd sounded great on this, I always thought his voice was really light and airy but he showed that he can really sing! Not sure if he's on the level of Trey Songz & Chris Brown just yet - he needs a few more hits under his belt - but if this is anything to come by he will be soon! btw Polow smashes anything he touches....best producer in the game at the moment! 4.5 |

I'm feeling this one! Pretty much everything on here is on point.
The only thing I thing that bothers me is that throughout the song it feels like he's reaching for the notes instead of singing it comfortably. It's kind of the too late but I think a lower key would have worked better for his voice. |

He actually sounds a little like Avery Storm on this, but better. This is the best song I have heard Lloyd do in a long time. Most of his features have been better than his last album.
With the new signing, he can get back to work. |

This is r n b production at it's finest. Nice blend of classic sounds and new ones. Lloyd clearly spent alot of time getting the backgrounds correct and the leads are fantastic!! Singing strong! I love this song.

Let me throw my two cents on this. From I heard this song I fell in love with it. I listened to the remixes and I still have to say this is waaaaayyyy better.
I dont think Lloyd can top this. I really dont think he can. Its like J. Holiday's Bed song. J cant top that. Its one of those classics. |
