Lloyd - Lay It Down (The Remix)
Artist: Lloyd
Featuring: Young Jeezy , R. Kelly
Producer: Polow Da Don
Album: King of Hearts
Label: Young Goldie/Interscope
Thought that Lay It Down would be laid to rest after the success of Part II (Tribute to the Legends)? Think again – not wanting fans too young to get into a Patti Labelle guest feature to feel left out, Lloyd has gone ahead and enlisted two current big-names for yet another official remix. And why not? Polow Da Don‘s synth-driven instrumental sounds just as smooth as it did the first time around, and at least one of the guest features is an unreserved hit; while I imagine there will be some debate whether the gruff Jeezy (who laces the beat with such entertainingly un-smooth lines as “First I undress her then I’m jumpin’ on the dresser.”) was the right man for the job, R. Kelly is an absolute no-brainer; delivered off-the-top, the R&B heavyweight’s “sexual freestyle” is an undeniable highlight. Still digging Lay It Down the third time around? Whichever version you prefer, you can expect plenty more R&B goodness on Lloyd’s King of Hearts LP, scheduled to hit store shelves and online retailers sometime in March.

Did we need a third remix? Not really. Will I take it? Sure, but I could have done without Jeezy. He weighs down the track and would have been better left off this cut or replaced with someone who has a little bit more smoothness and isn't as rough around the edges (sorry, Jeezy). After all, you already know what you're getting when Lloyd and Kells are on a record.

Was Kells late on gettin his verse in for the Patti Labelle remix? LOL. I think this woulda fit better if he kept it separate with a Kells/Labelle remix and then went for the "G-mix" with Jeezy and another rapper. I'll take it for what it's worth though, an enjoyable listen and a step up from the original.

I agree with cb, it would of been better if kellz was on the labelle version and then added another rapper to go alongside Jeezy & Lloyd. To this track. I still love the production and both Jeezy & Kellz sounded sweet over it. Kellz needs to be heard over more production like this.

Is it just me that thought all the cussin' took the sexiness out of this joint??? I could have done without the expletives!!

I think Kellz would work well over the LaBelle one too; his 'sexual freestyle' was hilarious. xD
Jeezy is totally not seductive to me, with a 'Love in this Club'-esque verse here. I didn't really like the rapping Lloyd at the beginning... |

Jeezy I could take or leave, actually I'd probably rather leave him, but I'm always down for some half hilarious, half sexy crooning from Kelly, and the man doesn't dissapoint.
Let's call it a wrap on the remixes from here on out guys. |

@Fuego89 it's supposed to be that way. It's the G-mix... the song is not meant for making love but to get down to 'adult' activities. Lloyd came through and Kellz took it over the top

Great remix! i like both remixes. Patti is Classic but this one compliments the original in a different way. It may not be for everyone. But don't call it a wrap on the remix of "Lay It Down", I hear there is one more brewing for the top 40 spin :)

Omg im so sick of everyone remixing everysong. The original of this was terrible, the remix was ehh ok, after that it just got worse and worse. This is pointless. Why does everyone feel the need to remix everything??? A billion remixs for "Black & Yellow", now ppl are gonna do it to this crap?!?! Dam... Jeezy was the LAST person i would have in this song. R. Kelly? Yes. But thats all. Ppl plz stop with remixing every wack song out there. OMFG!!

I never felt I needed another remix. Plus I really feel very 'meh' about this track. I want to see something else, not another remix.

I actually love the original. I find myself singing it and not knowing. It just has that catchy hook that sticks in your head. The remix with Patti was ok, I did expect it to be better but it is what it is. THIS, I am 100% sure was unnecessary. I agree that Kells should have been on the Patti remix and it should have stopped there. The only reason I clicked play was because I saw Kells name on the feature. But I am dissappointed.

There is no way they could beat the first remix, but this is a nice addition.
On a side note, this was one of the freshest Jeezy verses in a minute. |
