Professionally, LL Cool J‘s got it pretty damn good right now—while he has made his starring role in NCIS: Los Angeles his main focus, the rap veteran’s still got the cachet to get hip-hop heads’ attention when he decides to release a new record. Be that as it may, the self-proclaimed G.O.A.T.‘s first Booth feature since September 2009’s NCIS: No Crew is Superior comes from a place of trouble and pain. On newly-released promo single No More, the emcee born James Todd Smith laces Rico Love and Jim Jonsin‘s understated synth-guitar boardwork with poetic snapshots from a love whose spark has died: “The dining room as an empty chair, the mirrored staircase has an empty stare (stair) / House full of company, but no one’s here / We’re saying ‘Cheers’ while we’re holding back tears.” Complete with the pained chorus vocals of R&B heavyweight Ne-Yo, No More is available now for purchase on iTunes. Additionally, watch for the record to appear in a future episode of NCIS: LA, airing Tuesday nights at 9:00/8:00 CST on your local CBS affiliate.

Welcome back, LL. Unfortunately, this sounds real formulaic. I think most would agree that LL sounds better with more passion and anger in his vocals and this is pretty tame in comparison. Plus, Ne-Yo's vocals border on sleepy. Still, its not a terrible listen by any stretch.

Wasn't expecting to hear a track from LL today, but I would have to agree with Z, this doesn't really sound like a track he would jump on, it isn't his style.

Glad to see LL's back to making good music and not trying to fit in with the younger hip hop artist.

This was OK. I was expecting so much more. This track was playing in the background and I barely even noticed it, so I had to play it again. Decent, but not good enough for who they are.

LL's second verse is pretty dope and Ne-Yo's chorus is well written but I do agree the energy is a little low. LL will have more dope stuff to follow.

LL comes correct on every verse. Try to do that Lil Wayne.
Ne-yo smooth as usual. Not a very intense vocal performance, but I think that's because of the somber subject. Production is very tight. On the first listen through it sounded like the drum and guitar need more between them, but the synth sounds really are filling in everything nicely. |
