In November of 1985, when a young LL Cool J released his debut, Radio, nobody in their right mind could have predicted that 23 years later, the Brooklyn entertainer born Todd Smith would be readying his thirteenth album. Following the release of his newest street anthem, The 5 Boroughs Is Back, two female-driven songs made their way inside the booth: Cry and Girl If I. While both records brought listeners back to the days of LL’s softer touch (think Doin’ It or Hush), neither sparked much buzz. Consequently, the artist and his about-to-be-former label have scrapped both songs and will roll forward (officially?) with the The-Dream-produced and assisted Baby. Needless to say, at no time over the next three months will you be able to hear with words “summertime” and “anthem” without hearing the veteran rapper’s brand new hit.
Note: The streaming of “Baby” has temporarily been suspended.
First one to rate this, I thought the sound messed up a couple times but realized it was the beat. I`d put this as a banger but I'm not feeling the beat. I'll listen to this again for sure.
When I type in my itunes folder I coem up with about 30 songs come up. lets get more creative with these titles people! This song is ok. I'm not blown away by anything here. I think it IS time for LL to leave def jam and go a completly different direction with his music.
After reading the comments, I didn't think I was gonna like this. But this is good! LL does well enough on the verses and the hook is good. This gonna be a banger. The-Dream sounds great on this one.
The beat is everywhere; it's a bit of a mess for me. But it's oddly creative for me and I'm definitely feeling it. It's really a clash of styles and I can see how some people may not enjoy it a lot. I suppose my opinion is a bit biased because I'm a big fan of the-dream and he stays true to his style here. The-dreams touch on this track really softened up LL here and he'll probably be drawing a bit of a different audience (he's been going pretty hard lately)... ie. mainstream appeal has been upped a notch.
Wow the beat is energic! The problem is that they repeat your baby your baby too many times in the chorus, and this gets on my nerves! it's in rotation
The beat is missing something! Don't know what, but Fuck it.
LL in the game long enough to put out 13 major albums. WHOA!
Dude been in the game same year I was born. That is a feat in itself.
I dig the song but the Dream's singing is ennoying a hell.
i expected alot more from LL if this REALLY is his last album... i duno i just feel like he should be puttin out stuff better than this.... o well ill listen to it again i just wish it was more...
This is probably the best song I've heard out of the previous one's. I like the summer feel and The Dream on the hook. LL is a Hip-Hop legend. Not many artists will be able to say I've been around for 23 years!!!
Back to rate again!! after a certain number of listens, I realized I don't like this very much...I like the beat but unfortunately I hate it when they repeat the same word in the chorus (already written this)!! she's my baby, baby, baby...annoying! it's ok
Decent track. You gotta give LL credit in stilling having the ability to make both R&B and Hip Hop tracks. This is a nice mixture and could be a decent club track for early in the night but won't be a huge single, IMO.
repetitive hook and constant "aye"s in between make the hook a little annoying, instead of catchy....but that's how most of Dream's hook are. Dream drops a decent bridge or breakdown, but the track is just decent. LL lyrically isn't bad, but there are a few corny lines, especially when he tries to go St. Louie with the accent "shuuuuree, wuuuurd, sluuured, huuurr, cuuuur, wuuur", not feelin that even if he talks about being tipsy in that third verse. Decent track that sounds fresh, but its only a decent single.
A little repetitive but it's not too bad of a track. The beat is ok, the hook is repetitive but it doesn't actually sound that bad. LL puts in a couple of decent verses. In rotation.
It's not quite a banger, but it's real good. I'd play in the car a little bit. It's definitely missing something. Maybe its the repetitive chorus or the strange collaboration (LL Cool J & The-Dream!?). It definitely doesn't suck tho. Maybe I would like it better if I actually liked LL. I definitely think he is overrated. "Doin It" and "Headsprung" were just about the only songs he did that I really cared for.
