Lil Wayne - Street Life (aka The Streets Raised Me)
Artist: Lil Wayne
Producer: Unknown
Album: Untitled DJ Big Mike Mixtape
Label: Cash Money/Universal Motown
As most of the industry struggles to stay afloat, Lil Wayne continues to prosper. After 22 weeks on the charts, his latest album, Tha Carter III, continues to sell like hotcakes (I love that expression), and is rapidly approaching the triple-platinum certification marker. And if that weren’t enough, the self-proclaimed “Martian” has been featured once again on the DJ Drama-backed Dedication 3 mixtape (which dropped on Thursday) and was chosen to join T-Pain, Keyshia Cole, and the Gym Class Heroes on an eight-week winter tour. In the midst of these goings-on, Weezy (of course) also found time to record a few new joints for a forthcoming DJ Big Mike mixtape. The first leak from the project, Street Life (aka The Streets Raised Me), features a sped-up old school sample and (thank the Lord) no Auto-Tune.

Not a lil wayne hater, but i am a realist and can admit to when his songs are average and below and this is below.

Song comes proper, a little bit of a decline for a Weezy flow. The beat could have definitely hit a lot harder, I'm not feeling that bass in my body, even with the volume on 90%. I can't even put this one in rotation, it's just a little too off for me. On a side note, that Dedication 3 is fire! Go listen to that!

Its SO refreshing to hear Wayne rap! I've been going back to C2 or Drought 3 for good Wayne lately, but hopefully he'll get back to his roots now. 3.5

I hate how they make you think this beat has "that bounce" in the intro then completely slows it down to some Dip Set type type sample track. That dissapointed me from jump. Wayne seems uninspired here. I have a weird feeling that he wasn't feeling this beat all that much either.

not a huge weezy fan, but not a huge weezy hater neither. this is trash, in my opinion. the beat just doesn't make me jump that much; also weezy's flow in this track is just...gone.
just b/c its weezy he gets a 2 instead of 1. |

I've been waiting for someone to spit over this "The Crusdaders" sample. I was up on this in the Summer of 2007 and wrote a song to it while on the Amtrak on the way to one of my performances in North Dakota, but I lost the lyrics. I really like how they flipped this sample. This is an OK joint from Weezy, but nothing special. I agree, the whole thing just seemed uninspired.

im really feeling the production on this, it does have a Dipset feel to it like (i think its the high pitched voice in the background)...i actually really like the sound of all the elemets combined...i really like Weezy's wordplay, to be honest thats why i'm a fan of his...4 star banger

Nah... Im not feeling this... Lil Wayne is suprisingly weak and the beat is quite boring and its far to easy to skip this. Not good enough to put in rotation.

This beat is really annoying; I can't even stand to listen to the rap because of it. This deserves a 2 star at best, but I'm giving it a 1.

Lil' Wayne sounds particularly good here, it doesn't even seem it's him! I'm feeling the beat but not the background sample, it's hella annoying! Song has energy but it's not my type, after a while I get sick of it

I miss "Tha Carter II" and "Like Father, Like Son" weezy... Hes getting TOOOO effed up his flow is getting lazy.. I also heard a few other songs from dedication 3 and hes using autotune again and again unnecessarily.. Its gone from Weezy beng my favorite artist to "mannn what the hell happened"
