A few months ago, Lil Wayne revealed plans to drop a Carter III rerelease containing all-new songs.  Whether Weezy was pulling the public’s collective leg with that announcement, or was simply oblivious to the fact that that made no sense, truth has, as usual, turned out to be stranger than fiction: Rebirth will be the emcee’s rock album, and tonight marks the official lead single’s world premiere.  Above all else, Prom Queen proves Wayne as a musical chameleon extraordinaire; though his hoarse, Auto-Tuned vocals are instantly recognizable, this record would otherwise sound perfectly at home on modern rock radio.  While some may find the superstar rapper’s Sk8r Boi-esque tale of high school rejection a bit hard to swallow, the hard-rocking sound (courtesy of DJ Infamous and Drew Correa) certainly has the potential to attract a whole new demographic.  Is this a good look for Weezy?  I leave it to you, the readers, to decide.

REALLY looking forward to the feedback on this one. Ok so here we go, this song was absolute garbage when I first heard it. After a few listens, you begin to appreciate it a little bit more. The autotune/voice is what breaks the rock and roll vibe to me. Rockers have a distinct voice that makes the music, just like rappers do. You don't see a rock singer rapping because he would sound bad at it. Hence why Wayne sounds bad over a rock record.

I compare this experiment of going outside the box exactly to Kanye and 808, although Kanye has the edge in my opinion.

Conclusion - I prefer the hip hop Wayne, the Wayne who I just saw in concert last weekend. Do still I appreciate this song and concept? Yes.

I was interested to see what this rock project would sound like. I was skeptical, but I thought Wayne might pull it off. I actually like Weezy's voice over this beat during the verses... The dark sound kind of works for it. The chorus is not good at all for me, could have done better. The production would sound better for me if they pulled the guitar forward a bit. With louder instrumental and a better hook this would have made rotation for me... I'm looking forward to see what else he can do in the genre

The rock is hard which makes the song but, Weezy and his autotune really gets to me. Overall, I think he tried but, Weezy needs rap. The production is amazing had me banging the whole time.

This is okay, its def not a 5 star but its interesting. I wish he would stop with the autotuner. I hated Let it Rock when I first heard it, so maybe this song will grow on me. If this is what most of the songs on his new cd will be like, it will almost be like Kanye's 808's.

Im not gonna lie this is pretty dope. As a fan of both rock and hip hop its interesting when a strictly hip hop decides to go in on this type of production
1 The production itself is solid especially the guitar and drums. Weezy has short yet good enough lyrics. This will definitely be a hit. I dont have a problem with Lil Wayne switching it up just like Kanye did on his melodic/808 drums/lacking lyrics album. He has already proven what he

do as a MC and this will make him even stronger. This is a hot song!

First, to me, this shouldn't be a rock song. it's STILL hip-hop. just with a tinge of rock / aka rock production.

as a rock song, this is terrible. If a rock station plays this, they should be shut down, because this ish is terrible rock. you can't just put on a rock production and call it rock; rockers can sing, at least the ones lil wayne is trying to join. I'm a huge fan of rock music, and this makes the worst singers look talented.

I ran this by a rock group on the net. overwhelming response: horrible. maybe a few nods to decent production

So, this is to me, hip-hop with rock production. In that point of view, the lyrics still blow, the production is pretty awesome (not quality rock, but very good) and the singing still blows. As an entertainment factor, it's listen-able and i may even like it a little eventually. Since this is a hip-hop site, my rating reflects my hip-hop perspective: OK 2*

I love rock music! So, I know SOAD (SystemOfaDown), and that's the feel I got from the first chords. Then came a more generic guitar and drumming approach, which I also love, but... where does Wayne stay in the middle of this?

Well, in the end, my main impression of the song has nothing to do with him. The autotune just doesn't mix well with rock music to me!
It’s supposed to be raw talent, not a gimmick. Damn, we (rock lovers) know a lot of rock singers who’s vocals are nothing special, still we don't give a damn since it's raw, but autotune?!? Sounds out of place in a purely rock song.

Not a very good tune to sing… like Kanye with 808’s, I’m seeing Wayne having trouble to come up with enjoyable melodies since it’s not his forte.

I’m really curious about the feedback on this one. (great feedback aspiring dj! ;) couldn’t agree more)

You know whats crazy?

There will be 5 million DJs who successfully pull off this record at high school proms all across the country this spring. They will mix it in with some Bon Jovi, maybe a little AC/DC or Aerosmith. They will think they are the sh*t. Really, they are just being played. Wayne is no rocker. Not even close. However, he is a friggin pop star. And pop stars think that whatever they do, they will succeed. (See Kanye, Justin, and Madonna.)

Will Weezy follow? Honestly - I have NO CLUE.

First listen - hated it. Second listen - have to admit wayne is going nuts, if he can make this album amazing and grab a whole new demographic he is going to be legendary. I personally would rather hear a whole cd of wayne over some ridiculous and/or techno like beats (like "Up In This Club ft. Swizz Beatz, Turn Off - Keri Hilson, Lollipop, Unstoppable - Kat Deluna) I feel like hes capable of making an entire cd of straight club hits, dont feel like hes near doing the same in rock, and I don't think "rockers" will listen to wayne no matter how "good" his rock is.

I actually like this song, love hip hop and love rock. He mixed it pretty good. When i saw Lil Wayne going a little rock star. With the big chops on his face, slim jeans etc. Wondering if he was serious well it looks like him and Kanye have both gone a bit nuts. To be honest its not as good as Kanye mixing his blend. But it sounds alrite. Definite banger

I heard this record earlier this week and thought it was really wack....but...on this second listen, it's better than before. I think the record works. I commend Weezy for doing something different. That's what it's all about. Since all these fake thugs and dudes seem to worship the ground Dwayne Carter walks on, let's see if they'll hop on this. This actually could be a good thing for music and fans...my black people will stop fronting like they don't like rock music and quit being closet listeners. I think Weezy should have recruited a singer with a history in rock vocal skills to sing background on this joint to make it better. Overall, I give it rotation and I'm actually interested in seeing how the project turns out. The videos should be dope too.

I hate this. Rock and roll used to want to be like hip hop and now hip hop culture turns this way. I respect the love for all music. I'm all about that. But this sounds like some cheezy Yellowcard song with a New Orleans autotuner voice. Can't wait to see this track on the Buzz Balads CD. STUPID.

No I am sorry, when you have real talent out there that gets missed, and then you hear this, THEN you realize it's trash.
yes, I like Wayne, a lot. but compared to some of the talent I have heard, including myself, this kind of thing makes me mad. The production is okay, just wish his voicebox fetish would stop! he goes much harder when he's raps normally and fierce. 2 stars for the production.

Ya'll need to stop hatin on the voicebox.... It's just another tool artists use to make the song different or their voice a lil more listen-able ....
Sometimes people don't use it well, but that doesn't mean no one should use it.... & Weezy knows how to use it quite well ....
This is def. interesting ..... First thing first - Wayne is spreading his Weezyness(wicked but catchy ad-libs) all around his Verses lately is simply amazin ... im diggin dat .... hook could've been better... & Yes prod. is tight .... Weezy makes you LISTEN .... this kinda grows on u ... dis needs more than 1 listen guys .....
I would play it again .....
In the end - Very good or bad attempt at being unique .... i cant decide ....
but one thing im sure bout ... DJBooth listeners aren’t afraid to put fresh sounds into their headphones – unlike mainstream radio programmers.....

from a rock perspective, there's absolutely nothing bad about it, even down to the emo lyrics. however, auto-tune-Weezy being emo is just toooooo funny, hard to take seriously! i do think though the music is a standard, nothing really unique about it.

Had to listen to it a couple times before I liked it...but hey business-wise this could be a good look not to say he should stray away from hip hop..but if you can grab a hold of one demographic and bring them in with another you could double your fan base...and bring in more sales....I mean Kanye did the same thing with 808 even though it was gettin mad love over in the states, it was killin the international scene....gotta be open minded sometimes

I am a huge wayne fan, but this hurts my ears to listen to - I may try to listen a few more times though and hopefully can gain a little more respect for the song. While appreciate wayne's attempt to branch out, I think this song is an utter failure. I am not sure how I feel about the production by Infamous and Correa - I think that the rock music would be more effective if a rock band composed it. Something is lost with the synthesized instruments.

Period! no blood rapper has done this, ever! to be honest its actually what hip hop needs, just like america, "change." but... if this is rock, then y r hip hop fans still on his $dick, if u wanna be a rockstar go all the way, dont dangle your ass in between two industries to gain more viewers, go to rock, show the world you actually are what u say u r. this is not close at all but its a major step.

This is OK right here...I actually LOVE rock as well! I am surprised to see so many Rock n roll fans on this site! I think the two types of music are starting to merge a bit with people like Kanye and Lil Wayne being the pioneers of it all. This song is decent, but I don't know how long I will be able to listen to this track in particular. I think he is taking the auto-tune too far on this one as well. The beat is cool and the lyrics are just cool...not the best. It can go into rotation for now. I hope the other rock songs he does has a different flavor to it!

Only a song like this could have people rating 1 and 5 stars and still everybody has a point... lol

frozilla33 made an interesting point, about "rockers" (meaning people who only like rock music) not going to like Wayne's rock no matter how "good" it is. And it's not hate. Wayne's just not rock.

If you want to know how GREAT Wayne (the RAPPER, not the pop star) sounds over a rock beat, just listen to the rock remix of "Stuntin like my daddy": http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3iaw4_birdman-ft-lil-wayne-stuntin-like-m_street

Now that I would support! ...how I miss the old good tha carter II/autotune-less Lil Wayne.
