I don’t know about y’all, but these past few months I’ve been praying to the hip-hop gods that installment number four in Lil Wayne‘s Carter saga will be every bit as brilliantly insane as its predecessor. While 6’7” was a tantalizingly weird start, I’ve been waiting for a follow-up to really get my hopes up. Well, single number two has arrived in the form of If I Die Today
John. Morbid lyrical fantasies are always a good look for Weezy (though his therapist might disagree), and here we have them in spades; over a street-ready Polow Da Don beat renovated from its original appearance on Rick Ross’ I’m Not a Star, Tunechi mixes reflections on his demise with luxurious stunting and plenty of oddball lines (including my pick for Least Expected Reference of the Week: “I got that Esther, b*tch I’m Redd Foxx”). Ross himself contributes a characteristically high-rolling middle verse, as well as trading lines with Wayne on the hook. Die Today is far-out, to be sure, but is its debt to the Teflon Don inclusion a handicap? Whether or not you think it bodes well for the project, you won’t want to miss out on the cultural event that will be Tha Carter IV, coming this spring.

Wayne hasn't released anything better than any of his songs before he went to jail. Which is really saying he went from bad to what the @*#$! how can you suck like 10 times worse. Lil Wayne is gonna start doing a lot of songs with Gucci and Company I can see it. Bet CIV has a Gucci feature. Might even have all of bricksquad on a song he'd do that.

this is OK.... which is bad if you look at who is on the track...
When the music for Kanye's most recent album was coming out, everyone knew that the album was going to be good because of the great tracks.. This makes me think the opposite of Carter 4... hopefully he tightens his game up |

I cannot STAND Rick Ross, so I wasn't expecting much out of this track, then I read the comments here and was really not expecting anything.

I clicked play and after 20 seconds I thought Lex Luger produced it. But then I see Polow...WTF. Wayne, this should be left of Carter IV and be on anything owned by Ross.

To be honest, I didn't think that this was as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Sure Polow's production sounds similar to that of Luger's, but I think Wayne did a good job with his verse and hook. Never been a Ross fan and that will stay the same after this track. Not that good, but not that bad either.

It's the same old artists and it's getting old. Wayne needs to stop swearing so much, he isn't good at it. It was fine the first couple songs, but now the language is overused and uncomfortable to listen to. They need to add a beat to cruise to. I can't justify playing this in my car. Although the beat is sick and remind me of a Lex Luger joint - I am disappointed that Weezy has taken something from the Teflon Don. For what is expected to be the album of the year, Weezy needed an entirely original Hip Hop album.

rick ross wasnt good as usual
but i think this song needs time to get used to. i hated it at first but then i started liking it. weezy started off strong and ended pretty good. if someone else instead of ross came in, it wouldve been gr8-maybe jeezy or jayz or someone. good song, needs time. beat have heard it before but listen to it with good speakers and it will be cool. so far, 6'7'' and this on tha carer 4. not bad start, better than right above it or some other sell out song. weezy 4 ever |
