Lil Wayne - How to Love
Artist: Lil Wayne
Producer: Detail, Drum Up
Album: The Carter IV
Label: Cash Money/Universal Motown
Prepare for the internet to explode in 5, 4, 3….. When Lil Wayne emerged from Rikers we didn’t know how the incarceration would affect his music, but after first single, Six Foot Seven Foot, it seemed like the answer was not much. Weezy going hard over a Bangladesh beat? Yep, that sounds familiar. But after today’s release of Carter IV’s second single, the acoustic ballad How to Love, the rules have been rewritten. Featuring production by Detail and Drum Up, who combine hand percussion, a slow bass line and the occasional Dream-esque “A!”, How to Love is easily the most sentimental we’ve ever heard the teardrop tattooed rapper, as he croons an (almost) auto-tune ode to a woman who’s had everything but a man who could truly touch her heart. We’ve heard a lot from Wayne over the years, but we’ve never heard anything like this. I don’t need to prompt discussion with this one, just get out of the way and let Booth Nation get to commenting. Have at it people. Regardless, one thing’s for sure; it’s time to rethink our expectations for what Carter IV will sound like when it drops June 21.

Crazy - I didn't know Wayne was scooping up leftover Beyonce records. I joke, I joke.
This isn't why millions of folks are Lil Wayne fans, but radio will play the sh*t out of this song, so (sadly) I understand it. |

It's a real good song. Something not really expected from Weezy but we wand to hear rhymes, not singing. If this is the only track on the new album like this then I ain't mad.

Somewhere Frank Ocean, T-Pain and The Dream are side-eyeing this track. I didn't know Wayne was doing reference tracks for Drake now. But they'll be killing this on the radio in 5, 4, 3 ...

honestly...
this is a good move..and i really like this song...it will make a fine change for a second single However, contrary to the blurb in the beginning, weezy has never been afraid of doing what he feels. Perhaps why i still rate him as an artist even though there have been many songs which i didnt like from him. Rate 4.5 upwards rounding to 5 |

I don't give a @*#$!. This is a dope song. It sounds like he finally managed to have his studio fix his singing voice. But no matter how much I hated rebirth this is a dope song.

Holy BatSnips and Cow Dibbles is that what the Carter IV gonna give us! Ummm Im quite speechless on this one! I mean I kinda get it on a marketing perspective...I can hear this being played to no end on the radio (which I wont be listening to) but with that said...should this belong on one of Wayne's cross-over genre albums like his rock thing. I just don't know. Im shaking my head as I listen and laughing at the same time. I can't take it serious but the reality is, its not a horrible song..just one I would have shut down the booth and said...ummm no Wayne...this track aint for you!

This song is new for me since I have never heard Lil' Wayne sing before. He's pretty good... this really surprised me, it's nice to see him take a break from rapping all the time to singing every once in a while.

I'm actually really impressed that Wayne has grown this much. I think another artist would have done a better job with it, but props to him for pushing his boundaries. Hip Hop needs change. This is that.

Actually enjoyed this. Usually when Lil Wayne sings it's just awful, but the vibe on this song is really cruisy and it works well. Whether this will help Tha Carter IV sell millions of copies I'm not sure, but no complaints from me. Solid 4

I am confused, should we rate artist's performance or beat? probably both. Ok, this does not suck too much, but it sucks enough for me to never play it again

Naturally, when a rapper makes a departure like this, there will be people who are skeptical of it. But in all truthfulness, I was hooked on first listen. This is potentially my favorite Wayne single, real talk.

I have a friend that believes Weezy got better at his rap game after he co-signed Drake. I told him Weezy was just good to begin with. But after listening to this crooner I am thinking he definately gets influence from Drizzy.

First of all, I'm guessing everyone that listened to this asked themselves if this was really weezy and yeah it is. This is "far from the usual" as he says a lot in his songs but it is also an amazing track

I don't give a f*ck what other people think about this. No, lil wayne does not usually do this type or what ever you want to call it. This song is amazing.

First thing's first, this guy can't sing. I understand that he needs something to sell his album, but this is unacceptable for a guy that claims that he's the best rapper alive.

It wasn't awful I guess. For a radio song it's not awful, but I don't understand what happened to Weezy. He used to be an incredible rapper, but he has fallen off as of late. It's not terrible, but for being "the greatest rapper alive" he should stick to rapping.

Gotta hand it to Wayne. I feel like people don't like change but this was definitely a good move showing a different style. I'm not too big on Lil' Wayne but this really upped my respect for him.
