Over the past year Lil’ Wayne has spit his rhymes in French (It’s Me Bitches Remix), in “T-Pain” (Showtime), and through song (Duffle Bay Boy). Thus, it is no surprise to hear the Louisiana-born MC transform into a Rasta, alongside Jamaican artist Sizzla, on the new cut The Only Reason. MCs used to compete to see the amount of flows they could spit over an assortment of different beats. Now, on the heels of Weezy’s bi-polar tendencies, it seems as though that bar has risen to include vernaculars, languages, and song styles. While many are disappointed that the highly-anticipated Carter III won’t come until February (at the earliest), Weezy has been giving musical treats every week for the past 12 months; the holidays came early and nobody realized.
Something’s wrong on the beat: that annoying-rising-4-times-repeating-thing (besides that, it’s actually creative)! The best part in the song is TStreets’s exactly because it lacks it! And I’m afraid that’s not the only reason This reggae-thing doesn’t always work (a good example is a song on Birdman’s 5*S, Make Way, go check it) Please Weezy, you remember CarterII? The worst on that album is better than this. And I’m a fan… damn.
Wow! Muzzie...wow! I agree totally. 150%!!!
I'm a huge fan of Wayne & this caught me off guard like wtf!
Not feelin this joint @ all. I dont even think a revamp in the form of a killa remix would even chng my opinion on this.
I likes this. Sizzla is fire and Wayne represents with the rasta slang (which is correctly used once again by lil wayne). My dad being from trinidad allows me to hear when reggae is being done foolishly or realistically. And here, he pulls it off once again. The Beat could be a lil better, but I'll take another free Lil Wayne track anyday!
this is some west some crazy spitting at the begging but being of Jamaican decent I would say that this sound more like some Hatian stuff, this isn't really Sizla style but I guess it's about time he gets some world wide exposure!
Yall notice weezy loves to say "Girl friend" a lot?
It's like a change up after a 100 mph fastball u dont see it coming Wayne always switching styles and he doesn't do a bad job at it but think he should stick to making his album all in all not feelin the beat or the hook
