September of last year, industry giants Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne knocked one out of the proverbial park with their Graduation collaboration, Barry Bonds. Nine months later, ‘Ye and Weezy have come together once again, teaming up for a remix of arguably the biggest single thus far of 2008, Lollipop. The constants held over from the original version are Static’s (R.I.P) chorus and bridge, as well as producer Jim Jonsin’s beat; Wayne spits two all new verses, complete with non-vocoder rhymes and “reeeemix baby” ad libs throughout. Surprisingly, Wayne has never recorded an “official” remix to any of his previously cataloged songs; knowing the public will lick this one right up, he waited for the right sucker.

I've been waitin for this Remix for a long time!! Went as far as askn "Z" lol, Kanye KILLS THIS!!!! His voice sounds so unique on thsi vocoder, I think Weezy threw in the 2 non vocoder rhymes for the haters who dont like the voicebox haha. This song is gonna be just as big if not BIGGER than the original!! BANGERR!!!!

You are absolutely right Z, Weezy has never declared an official remix to any of his solo tracks. That's pretty ironic considering the countless remixes he has dropped for other artists. Weezy speeded up the flow of his verses a lot for this remix. It's as if he's compromising the simplistic rhymes in the original to hard-hitting bars in the remix. Kanye provides a nice immediate attention grabber

The expectations for "The Carter III" are so ridiculously over-the-top that he would have to drop an undisputed classic to meet everyone's quota. "Lollipop" does not make a classic hip-hop album in my book.

I completely agree with you, boss dogg/TONE. Lollipop is not Hip Hop classic material. Sure, it's a nice club song, but it's nothing truly spectacular. A classic is "Illmatic". A classic is "All Eyez On Me". I highly doubt "Tha Carter III" will be the best album for 10 years to come, though it might outsell any other album for 10 years to come with all this hype.

I gave the original version 1star/garbage rating cuz I don’t like Lil Wayne with the voicebox (his voice is already distinctive and just sounds weird on it) and there was no substance as for the lyrics. This is how it should be in the first place. Kanye West does it again: he uses the voicebox without annoying me (last time was “Put on”, w/ Jeezy). I hate that thing on pretty much everyone else (Lil Wayne, T Pain, etc), guess the last time I liked it was with K-CI & Jojo. So I’ll reformulate it: I hate the bad use of the vocoder. Kanye been just playin with words, it’s beautiful. Lil Wayne went the beast style: feed him rappers of feed him beats (great one on this).

Wow, I'm going against the grain on this one. I like the original better, Kanye, please drop the vocoder. I didn't like it on "Put On" w/ Jeezy either. I will, however, give props for a real remix, with new verses from Wayne, but this still isn't his best work. Only gets an OK rating from me cuz the original smashed it, just flowed better than this remix.
