Eminem‘s Stan was one of the most acclaimed cuts in hip-hop history, striking such a chord that its title has become a synonym for “obsessive fan” in modern parlance. Can Lil Wayne duplicate that cut’s success with his unofficial sequel, the Swizz Beatz-produced Anne? Uh, of course not—but the result is certainly an entertaining tribute to the 2000 classic. Though this record didn’t make it onto the final tracklist, it should only build further anticipation for Tha Carter IV, set to finally drop August 29.

First let me say that I've really been disappointed by Wayne lately. This song is better than all of the songs that I've heard from him so far, with the exception of 6'7". Swizzy did his thing with the production but it's still missing something for me.

Despite the fact that if Wayne were to come in the booth and piss on the mic and it would still sell, this is decent. But for how long he's been on and how far he's come, (from mars apparently) I definitely want a bit more than this.

to eminems version of stan.wayne each year gets worse and worse as a artist and this was one of his last attempts to prove he's still relevant so sad |

if you dont compare it to eminem's version and judge it purely on what you hear right now, this is without a doubt a dope track from wayne. im not a great advocate of the man but i respect this effort from him. clearly the low ratings below have been influenced by eminem's version (which for the record, is incredible beyond words)

The intro really sets the tone for most of the song. Slow and somewhat sad. It's not " Stan ", but i love love what Swizzy did on this production!

One of the best tracks from Weezy in quite some time. Love the keys from Swizzy, something fresh from both of them. Well short of Stan, lacks the emotion only Eminem can bring, but it is certainly a step forward for Weezy.

I'm with some of the fans on this, if I relate this to 'Stan' you can't touch it, if you don't relate it to it, you got one hell of a good song.

Let's be honest if this song was done by an unkown rapper and wasn't a Lil Wayne song, there wouldn't be any high ratings. This is such a weak song and it should be compared to Stan because it says Stan Pt. 2. Wayne can't even stay on a concept. He never cleary raps what's the main idea of song. On a positive note, Swizz's production was excellent and sample was so chilling.
Also a better idea Wayne could of gone with would of been to have the song called "From Anne" and had wrote the song through Anne's point of view while Wayne was in prison or just as a fan letter. Like Stan but Wayne's life. |

This song would've been 1000 times better if Swizz yelled one of his typical "Showtime!" phrases or something right in the middle. That's all I think about cus I can't focus on Wayne's garbage anymore...

First off, I cant believe this was a Swizz Beats production. Swizzy, you did go brotha, never expected such switch up of tone.
Secondly, I think this is a good track from Weezy. Its good to hear him stray from the YMCMB swag and get on a track with an actual topic. Just like his previous release about "Love" this is a good track. I am thinking Carter V will be a good album. BTW, UNFORTUNATE NAME CHOICE, THIS CANT COMPARE TO STAN!!! |

Who's half-witted idea was it to put Stan in the title!? Really.....? I used to love Weezy but to compare yourself to an MC who is completely out of your league a.t.m. is a poor career choice. If you get Em to make a contribution then it would make sense or even some background on how to dig deep into one's a emotions like he did on the original. This is so completely maddening that someone thought they could ride the coattails of the original with this piece o' shit.
On a much brighter note (surprisingly) Swizzy murked the beat and was a far contrast from what I thought I was going to have to subject my ears to. 2 (rating the the beat alone) |

Bold attempt form wayne to compete with "Stan" - good attempt, but not close enough to Em.

Nothing compares to stan.
This is a dope track. Creepily haunting feeling that gets more relaxed and comfortable as it goes. For the musicians (rappers dont count) this is the weirdest key ive ever heard. Its between 2 keys i forget at the moment. I know for a fact that Weezy didnt come up with that. I admire Swizz because that was probably his idea. |
