Lil Scrappy - Swoop Swoop
Artist: Lil Scrappy
Producer: Cutty Cartel
Album: The Grustle
Label: G's Up/The Grustle Gang
Last we heard from Lil’ Scrappy, he was coming to terms with his addiction to the Almighty Dollar. Roughly seven months later, not only has the Atlanta emcee not kicked his cash habit, but he seems to have developed a new obsession on top of it all: wherever he goes, he simply has to Swoop Swoop. Precisely what does that mean? I have no idea – according to the sole definition on urbandictionary.com, the term “can be used to reference [sic] ANYTHING.” Judging by the braggadocio-packed rhymes Scrappy delivers over singer/producer Cutty Cartel‘s stuttering synth boardwork, though, it has everything to do with being fresh, flashy and fly – kicks, cars, money and women are all essential factors in the ‘swoop swoop’ equation. The question remains: is this street-anthemic single ‘swoop swoop’ enough to ensure Scrappy’s long-awaited Disturbing tha Peace debut, Tha Grussle arrives on record store shelves sooner than later? For the time being, we can only speculate…

I've listened to this song for a few weeks now (sorry Scrappy fans for the wait) and I still don't know what to make of it. We delayed the feature because our staff was torn. However, in the end I think it won me over. Its ignorant, repetitive and slighty-stale, but part of me enjoys it. Ahhh, who knows.

Just an average track. Repetitive hook, forgettable verses. Scrappy has fallen off the map it seems.

I pressed play expecting a shallow but immensely entertaining rider, and Scrappy delivered. I would have liked the track to come a little harder (it gets a little too heavy on the r&b vibe) but it's definitely something I would bang while driving.

I’m unsure why anyone would enjoy sitting through that hook a first time, let alone on multiple occasions. Below-average rhymes and unoriginal beat are not doing much to help the case. Avoid!

I don’t like this at all, it is catchy but not good enough. I think Scrappy is on the way down not up.

I've always been a Scrappy fan. But one of my biggest pet peeves is when artists struggle to find their true identity, and eventually become followers instead of leaders. I LOVED Scrappy when he would bust out the hard, gritty, crunk tracks like "No Problem" and "Head Bussa." This track doesn't catch my attention, and sounds like 90% of the garbage that plays on the radio. But I've always liked Scrappy's swag, and that's the only thing that really saves this song for me.
