In the course of Lil Mama‘s career to date, we’ve seen several sides of the Harlem-born femcee; though she hit the scene as a Lip Gloss-popping teenybopper, her account of her rough childhood on fourth single L.I.F.E. revealed surprising lyrical depth. Now, with the lead single off her currently-untitled sophomore LP, she’s stepping into the spotlight as a dance-pop songstress who’s proud to say, “I’m A Diva.” Though Mama’s lyrics, which focus on her sassiness and fashion sense, aren’t going to appeal to everyone, this is the kind of club-oriented cut that truly lives or dies on the strength of its beat and hook; fortunately, the synth-heavy production stylings of Bloodshy and Avant (not the singer) and the catchy chorus should be enough to have I’m a Diva running through listeners’ heads, as well as pumping through club sound systems. Lil Mama’s sophomore LP currently lacks an official release date – stay tuned for further details.

For some reason, I expected this to be a freestyle over Beyonce's "I'm A Diva".
Totally something different. I loved her CD. This is something different as well. She coulda came up with a more original topic since wack Beyonce just dropped a song like this, but it's not bad. It's just not something I would expect from Lil Mama. Sounds a lot like Christina and Britney. But I like the pop music appeal. 3 stars. |

Haha MH, I was with you. SO glad it wasn't though. However, still not feeling this and would never play it again. Mainstream appeal, but I think it needs some work.

I can see why people won't dig her voice in the verses, but it's merely a typical approach to match the character/subject I guess.
So you can hate… but not that much! ;) She’s a talented rapper (see L.I.F.E.). I can’t complain since this is obviously not aimed at my demographic group and can see as much success as any robotic Britney Spears single. |

personally i like the song. Its a new venture for her to explore.....i like this song..Lil mama is a sick individual and her dressing is off the wall she's like the female tpain....I like the way she dresses...its tight....lil mama is alright wit me..ppl are so used to the normal way that like when ppl try to give them entertainment they be like WTF bt ths song is ight...its different and thats y i like and appreciate the song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This song, as is probably part of the intent, just sounds like a teenage girl song. That's the vibe that the (annoying) "lip gloss" single had, and it obviously continues here.
The beat is upbeat and very playful, perfect for a teeny bopper song. The lyrics are boring and annoying, just like "lip gloss." I actually liked her singing, maybe because I wasn't expecting it to not suck... Regardless, it is definitely not for me... |
