Lil Jon - Miss Chocolate
Artist: Lil Jon
Producer: Drumma Boy & Lil' Jon
Album: Crunk Rock
Label: Little Jonathan Inc.
Remember Black Star’s uplifting “Black is beautiful” anthem, Brown Skin Lady? Lil Jon’s new single Miss Chocolate is nothing like that. Miss Chocolate’s strength is its production, a hypnotically head-nodding, club banging beat cooked up by Drumma Boy and Mr. Jon himself. For his part Lil Jon drops a not-exactly romantic verse – “…so round so thick / so nasty I love that sh*t” – along with, of course, his usual assortment of “Yeah!”s. (What? You were expecting something else?) Luckily, the King of Crunk isn’t handling vocal duties alone, wisely also bringing in R. Kelly, who delivers the kind of obscenely entertaining verse you’d hope for, and the supremely smooth Mario, whose hook and verse work somehow manage to push the song into musically respectable territory. Will Miss Chocolate be the lead single of Lil Jon’s long-awaited album Crunk Rock (due out in May)? That depends in part on how the masses respond, so have at it DJBooth nation. The future of Miss Chocolate is in your hands.

This is Jon's attempt at recreating "Lovers & Friends." Too bad he cannot make up for Luda not appearing on the record haha. Everything about this is great - except for Jon's vocals. He should honestly stick to the ad libs and the production. That is where he excels.

Agree with Z for sure. His voice kinda ruins it for me. but the production is strong and the r&b additions are a 4 start. Jons like a 1.5 so ill go 2.5 and round down.

Haha Z I was thinking the same thing with Lovers and Friends. This was decent, but it's hard not to draw the comparison. Kells was pretty hot here, but for some reason I haven't missed Lil Jon in the 5 years he's been gone.

By the time the track ended, I almost forgot it was Lil' Jon's. Too much R. Kelly, not enough Jon, and Mario's not bad, but some of his nasaly high notes don't fit. Production's amazing, though.

Production was great, though Lil Jon ruined this track for me. R. Kelly & Mario sounded pretty solid.
Take Lil Jon out & add another good R&B artist (T-Pain or Trey) and this would of been a banger in my eyes. |

I like to start this song at the one minute mark (after Jon's verse), pretend he's not screaming in the background, and let the track bang. Which says a lot for the cut's hit potential, but not a whole lot for Lil Jon.
On the plus side this inspired me to go back and watch Dave Chapelle's "A day in the life of Lil Jon" series. So that's a plus. |

Just another average R&B/Rap track that will probably be raped by radio and will be eaten up by screaming teen girls everywhere... The saving grace here is my man Mario, dude is talented! Kelly was cool too, but Jon needs to stop rapping and stick behind the boards and pop up when a YEAH!!! WHAT!!! or OKAAAAY!! is required.
I thought this album was sposed to be called Crunk Rock.....how the fk is a track like this supposed to be on a album CRUNK ROCK?!?!?!! |

While none of the elements fall into the unlistenable category, none stand out as being memorable. Just okay for me.

Read the comments first. Tried to go into it with an open mind. What it was, not what it wasn't. Would it have been better without Jon's verse, no doubt. But it was there. And like was mentioned, by the end of the song, you forget it was. That's a good thing.
Production was nice. Mario blessed it. The lyrics of all 3 artists were lacking. Nobody said anything worth hearing, but Kelz had better delivery than he has lately and Mario's was wonderful. If you don't listen to the words at all, you can bump this pretty good. Jon's delivery was aweful. He's not a rapper. He's a voice. He was trying to make a mark on this song. Forgettable. Again, if you can tune out all the words except "cookoo for coco", you'll benefit. I've got it playing as I type this. Not paying any attention. That is what this song excels at. A nice groove song made to be heard but not listened to. Good enough for rotation (2.5 rounded up for a groove-induced good mood), but I can't wait until it appears on a Trey mixtape... ;) |

This sounds really weak to me. I don't think Lil' Jon should have rapped on this. At least he shouldn't have started it off. The Beat is OK, but I'm not feeling the chorus. R. Kelly's voice sounds GREAT!!! He is the high point of the song. Mario sounds good too. This can go into rotation all due to the R&B singers on this one.

Doesnt sound very Crunk Rockish lol.
I think a renaming of the album is in order. Give the title Crunk Rock to an album that is more deserving, so far "Pop that" is as hard as its gonna get. Jon cause i've stuck by your side all these years, ya boy is gon be a bit generous and rate this a 3/5. |

I have to disagree with the Lovers and Friends assessment... The beat is way more up tempo and doesn't even so close. I liked Mario on here but his voice sounded the same as when Claude Kelly sang the reference part. R. Kells is Kells and he came through as always... about time the chocolate sisters got loved. I wonder why Jaime Foxx didn't record it. Any explanations booth DJs?

lil jon's voice is so annoying when he's not just yelling random syllables. Mario does make this a much better track than it would be. in rotation, not sure for how long though...

Wonders when lil jon will bring out another cracker of a hit, since ''lovers and friends'' his track is ok but does not have the repeat factor were it makes u want to listen to it over and over again.

What a surprise a song called Miss Chocolate and R. Kelly is featured on it. Not even the combination of two R&B artists could have saved this horrible record. His voice is just too strong for this beat and this song altogether.
Shout out to a song that highlights my dark skinned ladies but I can't take Lil Jon as a serious artist who releasing his own singles and definitely not on a song like this. I much rather prefer him as I prefer T-Pain; a featured far far far in the background for a few lay low tracks and nothing more. |
