Laws - We Like It
Artist: Laws
Producer: Da Honorable C.N.O.T.E.
Album: 4:57PM Mixtape [Presented by Don Cannon]
Label: Unsigned
I was hoping for some fresh and healthy hip-hop in my headphones today to balance out my consumption of slow jams and candy hearts yesterday (happy tardy Hallmark day, by the way). Fortunately, Laws delivered just what I needed to get back on track with We Like It, the last leak off his 4:57PM Mixtape before it drops. In comparison to the previous tracks from the mixtape (such as listener-approved Shining and Number One), Da Honorable C.N.O.T.E. lays a heavier, club-style production for Laws to flow over, a challenge he takes up by throwing down line after line of the kind of lyrical dexterity that’s quickly making him everyone’s future favorite rapper: “So I rhyme, and/ they say I make it happen / I wear my heart on my sleeve, like the latest fashion.”). So how about it Booth? How much do you like Laws’ new style? If you enjoyed this track, be sure to check out his Don Cannon-presented 4:57PM Mixtape, out tomorrow and available exclusively on DJBooth.net.

This production is absolutely, completely, entirely... average. I've heard it a thousand times before. Good lyrics by Laws. Pick a better instrumental next time.

Laws flexes his versatility on this record. While I personally enjoy the more laid back/retro records off his the new mix-album (available Tuesday!), this crossover appeal could work wonders. The more you listen to this young man the more you'll like him. Trust us.

good to hear don cannon back the beat is cold...man i wish i had this beat i would have killed this song, but the verses are ok, his flow is ight, but the hook is straight garbage so ill put it in small rotation and thats mostly because of the beat

The beat is hot although i admit it's a bit of a generic beat but it's slightly better than "average" as xuUp17 stated!!
I'm diggin Rich Boy's "We Like It" track better!! |

I'm with the majority on this one...the beat is nothing to get excited about, but Laws does his thing.

very tough to beat rich boy's one but this certainly comes close. the production may have been generic but thats why i liked it. the generic production along with laws' different look gave it a good chemistry i thought. banger!

I feel like the hook is so poor it distracts from how truly good the rest of the track is, like how an ugly face could make even a girl with a beautiful body unattractive. Ok, not one of my more intelligent analogies, but I think it gets the point across.

I am totally convinced that chemists rule hip-hop now...I think J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League got a bit of Kanye's DNA from recording Rick Ross' "Maybach Music 2" and snuck a bit from Drake's studio, put them togethern and got Laws.
This track is AWESOME. Here's hoping Warner Bros. doesn't mis-handle him like they have so many other hip-hop artists... |

Verses ain't bad, but they alone can’t really save the flat hook and that boring beat. Okay at very best.
Well lets see what else the "4:57PM Mixtape" will bring. |

It seems like almost every mixtape that i have on my ipod right now has "Cannon" screamin all over it(especially that smokee robinson). It is amazing how he adapts his sound to cater to the vibes of different artists. Laws is good on here, i like this one more than his track with 9th(the lyrics NOT the production). Overall good, but not great. Starting to great tired of the Drake-esque hooks.
