Laws, the Florida-based emcee we most recently saw speeding through his Daytona 500 freestyle, has gone from DJBooth newcomer to DJBooth favorite in only a matter of weeks. I guess there’s no denying talent. On his new leak, Shining, making its worldwide premiere right here, Laws is taking a more mellowed out approach to his music, due in no small part, I’m sure, to the effects of some of the best 9th Wonder production we’ve heard in a minute (and that’s saying something). Even better, Laws does the beat proud with a smooth, punchlined flow that includes references to, in no particular order, The Watchmen, optometry, Bono, gardening, drug addiction, Tupac and, of course, yo momma. What can I say? There’s never a dull moment on Shining. (Cue the groans). I promised the world earlier today that they'd love this song. I am standing behind that statement. How smooth is that 9th production? It would be difficult for most emcees to not get overshadowed, but Laws stands out.
Get ready, 4:57 is just a few clock ticks away. Coming next week, 2/16.

This track shines (no pun intended...seriously) because Laws keeps everything simple while still offering a few lines that even Dave Chappelle would steal.
@Nathan: I totally would have missed the "yo momma" line if you hadn't mentioned it. A few emcees should add that one to their repertoire. |

"Went searching for the best beat I could find." Mission accomplished. 9th did the damn thing here, and Laws kept up with the production nicely. Laws wins me over a little more every time.
@MatthewKyle I'm not sure if my ability to spot a yo momma line from a mile away is a good thing, but thank you.

Oh sh*t lol. This was nasty! Production was crazy and Laws just killed it. I loved his flow and some of his punchlines were dope. Wow!

I haven't heard a 9th Wonder beat in a minute, it’s refreshing to hear this beat. I've never heard of Laws before, but he is nice.
