Damn, Laws breakthrough mixtape 4:57 is the hip-hop gift that keeps giving. Originally hosted, along with its more recent cousin 5:01, by DJBooth (pause for self-congratulatory pat on the back), 4:57 earned fans nationwide for its old school-meets-new-school sound, a sound exemplified by Runaway, a song Laws is currently considering releasing as an official single. Produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, who craft a simultaneously haunting and hard-edged beat (anyone know where that sample is from?), Runaway finds a starkly honest Laws telling the story of a relationship that went wrong in every possible way, mostly because of his failings: “I can tell by the look that I get in her eyes, that I took everything, now she empty inside.” This is more than just music, this is catharsis. So how about it Booth? Should Runaway be Laws’ next single? And before you say it’s too dark, let me remind you that Eminem’s Love the Way You Lie is currently ruling the charts.  "Runaway" is a good look as a crossover record for Laws. The female vocals help this song appeal to an alt/Top 40 audience and the mood is perfect for listeners who like to get emotional while consuming their music. I am a fan, but you already knew that if you frequent our site.

This particular song intrigued me because, at the time of its release, I was experiencing a similar situation to the storyline illustrated by Laws. Classic in my book. |

i wish i can change my rating to 5 stars but i cant. Ive listend to this song like 20 times in the last 2 days its really really great everything about it. i dont think its a radio song but i think its better that way anyway. Real good work

Ha straight from a fan out of laws factory this is probably my favorite song... Its too real and poetic not too mention I think any guy thats been in a long relationship could relate. THis is the stuff that inspires me too write.
