Laws - Never
Artist: Laws
Producer: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
Album: None (Promo Single)
Label: Unsigned
Everything’s better when backed by a live band. Everything. Even sex. Did I say that out loud? The point is, DJBooth Freestyle Alum and day job quitter Laws has stepped back in the Booth, and this time he’s rolling deep with The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, a nine piece, Chicago based horn crew that are becomingly an increasingly large part of the hip-hop scene. On their new collaborative record Never, also featuring a smooth hook from singer Dave Young, Laws uses the…well…hypnotically dope production and instrumentation laid down by the Brass Ensemble to tell the story of his rise through the rap ranks, and the quasi friends he had to leave behind along the way, “Told my crew…I’m goin to the battle now / they said are you f**king crazy? / that’s when I knew…we’d never be closer than handshakes.” Don’t worry Laws, you’ve got a friend in the Booth, and we completely support your battle rhyming desires. While Never isn’t currently attached to any project, fans should keep an ear out for Laws’ upcoming, Paul McCartney inspired (yeah, seriously) mixtape, coming soon.

I've been trying to tell people for years that live bands are where its at. They make any track instantly more meaningful and emotionally involved. Also the effort in this type of production shows the dedication of the artist as a true musician. Laws does a fine job working the mic and really brings it together with that hook.

The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble was beautiful. I loved how they fed of Laws' energy and vice versa. That speed up/ flow switch up towards they end really caught my attention. I hope Laws can continue in this direction.

This is so @*#$! dope! Reminds me of Guru's Jazzmatazz projects. The band has a great chemistry with Laws flow I think this might be the direction he needs to go in, no one else is doing this

Laws has done it again...and we think THIS is dope, wait for that McCartney project. As far as live bands go, not too many emcees go that route. I agree with other reviewers though, look at the success of the The Roots. And, not that it should matter, the level of respect from other genres in the music industry would rise. Anyways, dope track.

im feeling the band. i like the melody of "moments in love" by the art of noise. bringing old skool, live band emsamble and hip hop to make a pretty jammin' track.

The mix between Laws and Dave Young on the hook is what really makes the track for me. However, I do in fact like the production by the Brass Ensemble. When it comes to Laws I always expect nothing short of spectacular and sure enough, Laws delivers with "Never."

Man this live band is bangin. A real instrument always sounds better than some computer generated thing so much more soul. I'm hoping The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble start to do a lot more songs even maybe with a big time artist? I'm feeling Kid Cudi or the always good B.o.B
