If you have an amazing memory, you may recall the April 2010 interview in which Laws expressed his admiration for the solo work of Sir Paul McCartney, and stated his intent to record a “virtual collaboration” with the ex-Beatle. Fast-forward a year and change, and we finally get our first taste of the project. If you need proof of concept, lead single Dear Boy should be just the thing to allay your doubts. The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Laws’ label bosses, handle production duties, drawing their piano-led beat from a track of the same title off 1971’s Ram LP. For his part, the freestyle series alumnus plays creatively off the source material, reinterpreting its chorus into a taunt directed at the haters who plagued him from day one. Though he allowed their non-constructive criticism to ruffle his feathers at first, he soon came to the realization that “...if I didn’t believe in myself, no one else would.” As catchy as it is insightful, Dear Boy is proof that Laws and McCartney are two musical tastes that taste great together – or have I got it twisted? Those who agree should cop Yesterday’s Future when it hits the ‘net May 24, as well as watching out for Laws’ contribution to the Booth’s forthcoming mixtape with New Era.

Just as I was about to x it out.... he picks it up with some straight fire in the end! Makes me like the beginning a lil more. 3.5 rounding up.

Laws is schoolin his haters in the best way possible: by making music that none of em can get close to.

If the whole project is reflecting this style of hip-hop, then I might die from happiness, Laws is amazing, period.

Like Z said, very very few people could even come close to pulling this off.

Yeah, gotta be mighty cautious when touching a track like this. Average emcee's will come off sounding cheesy 9/10 times... Laws isn't an average emcee

Using a sample of a legend like McCartney is a bold move. Props for Laws for taking a risk. The risk was definitely worth the reward, as Laws has a great track on his hands here. He absolutely kills this track. I especially liked the change of pace at the end.

This is pretty good, it strays away from the usual use of strong bass. The piano and chorus is what I think makes up for it being a wonderful song. Keep it up!

I've been intrigued ever since I heard about the project. This track didn't disappoint. I actually feel the opposite about the pace switch though. It's all fire but I definitely prefer the beginning over the end.

I love it! Laws always seems to put out hot music. The Paul McCartney sample was great with the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League production. Laws rhymes are always hot.
