It’s not often that you come across a voice that’s as ruggedly soulful as that of Los Angeles-based singer Latoiya Williams. While her latest record This Love Is Sweet is the songstress’ first feature on DJBooth her rare vocals have already caught the attention of the industry’s biggest names including Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, and Wiz Khalifa, who serve as a small sampling of the many hip-hop heavyweights Williams has worked with in the past. This Love Is Sweet is very reminiscent of the late-90’s soul sound that became so prominent thanks to artists like D’Angelo and Angie Stone. This is in part thanks to the much-heralded work of Nottz, who keeps the production on the record relatively light with an expert blends of horns and drums, allowing Williams’ bold vocals to take center stage. This Love Is Sweet will be featured on the singers forthcoming EP, Kup Cak’n.

Welcome to the Booth, Latoiya. I love her soulful vocal, as Danielle so eloquently labeled it above in her blurb. Very reminiscent of the mid-to-late 90's sound, which was an amazing time for R&B/urban contemporary music.
