Large Professor - Hardcore Hip Hop
Artist: Large Professor
Producer: Marco Polo
Album: Main Source
Label: Gold Dust
If Large Professor (a.k.a. Extra P) had his way, there would be no Soulja Boy dance. In fact, there would be no songs based around dances at all. Nor would there be any album skits, commercialized lyrics, or awkward, A&R-forced collabos. And why, you might ask, would he have it this way? Large Professor is what we call a hip-hop purist; in his school of mid-90’s rap, anything outside of the beats and rhymes themselves is garbage. His new single, Hardcore Hip Hop, fully embodies his conservative tendencies. Lyrically, he mixes in a little braggadocio with some fond reminiscence for hip hop’s better days. Marco Polo’s throwback beat sounds right at home. Hardcore Hip Hop will appear on his upcoming LP, Main Source.

Funny how the name of the producer of this beat is the same as Bow Wow & Soulja Boy's newest single. LOL. This is straight. I don't embrace hip hop purists, because they don't embrace innovation. Large Professor sounds like a really polished old school lyricist, but not something most of the younger cats will get with. But just like there is a market for Soulja Boy's music, there is still a market for underground, retro hip hop as well, so to each his own.

In a strict underground sense, this would just make above average. Large Pro is dope do not get me wrong, however, this song isn't all that dope. But it's passable.

Fortunately almost none of the rappers are close-minded like Large Professor. This song is (like he wanted) pure hip hop, it is good but I'm sorry for him, I prefer club hip hop! In my opinion he can continue making pure, old hip hop, but also be opened to innovation! Every type of music tries different things, that's normal. I quote justokhall, the beat is hard
