L Jaye - Recession
Artist: L Jaye
Featuring: Jeff Chery
Producer: Rondeau "Duke" WIlliams
Album: Promo Single
Label: Rush World Inc.
“We’re going through a Recession.” Truer words have never been sung, but can you really write a hit record about being too strapped for cash to pick up ladies at the local spot? R&B up-and-comer L Jaye‘s latest promo single (making its exclusive world premiere right here in the Booth) finds him attempting just that; over Rondeau “Duke” Williams catchy, synth-piano instrumental, the singer laments the costs of living and loving during tough economic times. Yeah, the topic’s a downer, but, with the right dose of dry humor, it makes for an entertaining listen—it’s hard not to crack up when, after deadpanning the entire track, the singer breaks into an Autotuned wail of “I’m so bro-o-o-o-o-oke!” Perhaps the biggest draw here is the opening verse, which comes courtesy of a Booth favorite who may not have to worry about the bills for much longer—Brooklyn-based emcee Pay$0z, who comes correct on the track’s front end, is currently in talks with several major labels. Stay tuned throughout the summer for more new tunes from this rising R&B star, as well as the release of Pay’s long-awaited, DJBooth.net-cosponsored Against the Grain LP.

Most of the "recession music" we've received here at the Booth is down right depressing. Luckily, L Jaye and Pay don't take this topic TOO seriously. Nobody likes to listen to flaunting music when they are dead broke, but recession music when they are dead broke isn't much better. Overall, an nice intro for L Jaye and another impressive offering from Pay$0z.

The track is nice, it's cool to hear some real music wit some humor to it. The track has a very cool concept, and Pay$0z' opening verse is nice.

I would love to hear this combo make a song other than talking about the recession. The production sounds catchy and Pay$0z has a solid opening verse. L Jaye provides some smooth vocals that are easy on the ears..enough for rotation

I'm feeling this way too much, too funny and too NOT serious... lovin' it the optimistic approach of dealing with the recession. Almost classic status.
BTW the song is playing up on me unliterally as it keeps stop playin for minute intervals... REALLY ANNOYING but i'll get over it. |

Thank @od. This is what I been waitin for 4 years. I think like this, just cause a beat has a certain feel to it, doesn't mean you have to talk about the same old shit. Normally when you hear beat like this it I wanna take you out this club, buy you patron, make you leave ya man, or some bs. This is what we actually @oin throu@h in society, its bout time pop music to address that on some of the same production that they sin@ that bs on. Y does awarness music always have to have sad deep beats or some we are the world type music to it?

A creative mind to be able to take a depressing situation and make it something that you can dance to in the club. Would not mind hearing it on the radio as well. Smooth vocals and tight lyrics. I think that these two are will go far.
