Being a tortured artist is a double-edged sword—on the one hand, you get to make a living by venting about your issues, thereby saving a bundle on therapists’ bills. On the other, well, there’s still the whole “tortured” part. Kyle Lucas is well-acquainted with this dilemma, judging by the inaugural leak off his and Captain Midnite‘s collaborative set—Your Tragedy finds the Purple Ribbon emcee struggling to come to grips with the constant scrutiny and heightened expectations that come with increasing success. Over Midnite’s pensive mix of reverb-drenched percussion, funk-rock guitar and dramatic horn flourishes, the Vonnegutt frontman (and freestyle series alumnus) spits a voluminous list of frustrations, from the critics and bloggers constantly busting his balls, to his lack of quality time with his girl, to the viciously-circular nature of his lyrical focus: “It seems I only profit off my negative emotions.” Despite it all, though, he ultimately resolves to continue forging ahead in the only way he knows how: “Time to put my work in, blow up like a nuke, b*tch. The Sky Is Falling and I’m Fine has yet to receive a solid drop date but, in the meantime, fans are encouraged to check out this joint’s official video accompaniment.

My thoughts: If the rest of their joint EP sounds like "Your Tragedy" we are all in for quite a listen, the sonic/vocal combo here proves that real collaborations still exist in real time, and don't the guys (see promo photo) look warm in those dark-colored hoodies? Sleeves, fellas.

I really really like this. The production is awesome. Plus, the energy is great, and you can really hear his passion in the flow.
