Kyle Lucas - Coffee Break
Artist: Kyle Lucas
Producer: Zeds Dead
Album: It's Always Sunny in Marietta 2
Label: Purple Ribbon Records
Ah, the Coffee Break: a time to kick back, clear your head, have a snack and enjoy a few minutes’ respite from the demanding customers and bosses. At least, that’s how it worked back when I worked retail; for Kyle Lucas, it’s a whole different story. On the latest single off his next street album, the Marietta, Georgia-repping Booth fave and freestyle alum engages in about as much debauchery as conceivably can be packed into those federally-mandated 15-minutes: seducing his co-worker, smoking a blunt, popping some Molly, having a one-night stand with a fly honey from Belize, et cetera. Zeds Dead crafts a beat to back Lucas’ hedonistic bars, flipping a Chipmunk-speed rendition of Aretha’s classic Say a Little Prayer and letting the Queen of Soul take center stage on the chorus. (That song’s so damn good that sampling it almost feels like cheating, doesn’t it?) While It’s Always Sunny In Marietta 2 has yet to receive a drop date, fans can, of course, keep it locked for the latest news and tunes.

Love the hook, but like Richard wrote above in his feature blurb its hard NOT to love some Aretha. I actually prefer Kyle over a more rock foundation, with a slight bit of a harder edge to his vocal tone.
