Kovas - Ready
Artist: Kovas
Producer: Kovas
Album: It Only Takes a Few to Start a Revolution
Label: Ghetto Beat
Last we heard from Kovas, the Brooklyn native (and exclusive freestyle series contributor) was more concerned with maintaining his freshness level than fighting the power, but a lot can change in 11 months; as implied by the title of his forthcoming mixtape, the artist’s currently getting Ready to lead the hip-hop masses in a full-blown Revolution. The staging ground for Kovas’ musical coup d’etat? Your local nightspot, of course! Over his own blistering, bass-driven boardwork, the man who brought us Wax On Wax Off issues an overdriven/Auto-tuned call to action, urging those who are “sick and tired” of how things are going to shake off their inhibitions and dance their troubles away. This track’s body-moving appeal can’t be denied, but is it fresh enough to turn the music game upside-down, as Kovas’ seems determined to do? That, my comrades, is for you to decide. If you’re digging it, you’ll most definitely want to keep it locked for the latest on his It Only Takes a Few to Start a Revolution street album, set to hit the ‘net ”soon.”

While not a fan of excessive vocal effects on a record, they happen to help certain artists while playing to a larger audience (in the club, on the radio, etc...). I think you know where I am headed here, right?
While I am not sure that a song like "Ready" is going to start a revolution of any kind, music or otherwise, I'll be shocked if a DJ played this one and didn't have a packed dance floor. I can feel the Black Eyes Peas influence (and they know what they're doing in the club). |

I'm actually feeling the vibe on this one I was slow on wax on wax off, but it really grew on me and then I heard his freestyle on djbooth and I was impressed with the kid can spit then I heard he did a official remix for Usher I think this kid is gonna go far. This song is on some stadium music sh*t. I wont be surprised is I hear this at a basketball or football game soon. Big record no doubt.

crazy I literally just heard this record on MTV 's Fantasy Factory. I agree with yessir this is definitely stadium music and I see it appealling to more than just hip hop heads. Kovas can definitely be in that Kanye lane of pushing things. I like the energy of the record and I dont really hear the auto tune more so the distortion like a some nine inch nails ish or white stripes. I dig it I can see it being big

Sounded a little too distorted in some instances of the song. Not really my type of track, but this does have potential to be something big in the mainstream. I'll pass.

I think Kovas had the bad luck to get me at a time when I'm feeling fed up of club-ready, pop music (see my response to that Roy Hamilton track). So, again, props to Kovas for making a record that hits the target demographic it's aimed at, but I'm not that target demographic.
