Kooley High - Solitude
Artist: Kooley High
Producer: Foolery
Album: Eastern Standard Time
Label: M.E.C.C.A.
When I’m craving a little Solitude, nothing scratches that itch like slipping on my headphones, stepping outside and vibing out to some good tunes while taking a nice, long walk (being careful not to vibe out so thoroughly I walk into traffic, of course). If you, too, find escape through music (whether listening to it or making it), you’ll have no trouble relating to the latest feature from Kooley High, the North Carolina five-piece who brought us Kooley Is High back in early ‘09. The first leak off a forthcoming project entitled Eastern Standard Time, the track finds emcees Charlie Smarts, Tab One, and Rapsody professing their love (along with a little lust) to Ms. Hip Hop over the soulful production of Foolery, who borrows a head-nodding groove and vocal hook from the Supremes’ Happy (Is a Bumpy Road). Complete with guest rhymes from fellow Tar Heel State native Median, Solitude is sure to get retro-minded heads excited to spend a little alone time with Kooley High’s next project, set to hit record stores and online retailers “soon.”

Love the vibe, the production, the sample, and the overall feel of the record. Its an old school head nodder with a smooth flow from all three emcees. I'd take an entire project just like this from Kooley!

I'm really diggin' this cool old school production. All of the artists contributed solid efforts, the second verse/artist was my favorite.

Another example of what happens when the production overpowers the artist who has the job to shine on it. And instead, the production shines and the artists only miniminally disapoint.

First, shout out to Cooley High the movie. Classic.
Second, shout out to the transition on the intro from the radio to the track. It's the little things that matter the most. And I don't agree that the production overwhelmed the vocals. It could have been balances a little better, but it's not nearly off enough to stop me from digging the f**k out of this. |
