Kno (of CunninLynguists) - Rhythm of the Rain
Artist: Kno (of CunninLynguists)
Featuring: Thee Tom Hardy , Tunji
Producer: Kno
Album: Death Is Silent
Label: APOS Music
Ever laid in bed during a storm, listening to the Rhythm of the Rain as it hit your rooftop, and said to yourself, “Damn, this would make a dope hip-hop record!”? I haven’t – but, then again, I’m not a nationally-renowned rapper/producer. Kno, on the other hand is and, for his latest single, the Cunninlynguists member builds a dope (if dark) cut on that very concept. Kicking things off with the obligatory rainfall sound effect, Kno goes on to flip an oldie I wasn’t able to identify into a pensive backdrop for rhymes on the topic of love and loss. Providing moral support to the Southern mainstay are Inverse emcee Tunji, who spends his middle bars reminiscing about the day his father walked out on the family, and North Carolina’s Tom Hardy, who adapts his pun-a-minute style to the more serious theme with considerable success (OK, the line “It’s a sh*tstorm, shoulda worn a raincoat,” is a little silly.). Like what you’re hearing? Judging by the project’s title, you can expect plenty more brooding bangers on Kno’s Death Is Silent LP, set to arrive on store shelves October 15.

This is the definition of mood music. Its not for everyone, or for every situation, but in the right setting it can be very enjoyable. Not as powerful as other material I've heard from Kno and friends, but its a solid listen.

I am definitely a person that needs music like this when I'm in a certain mood. This is exactly the kind of melancholy track I like. I love the sample they use, though I couldn't figure out where it was from either. The verses they spit go right with the track's mood.

damn. some real music here. i think the sample used (wherever its from), was a great choice, fits in so well. production is definitely the gem of the song but all the rappers do their part.

Really digging that cover art.
Anyway, definitely a quality record, though you have to be in a certain mood (slightly depressed) to really get into it, and I'm just not there this morning. Props to those not afraid to make music about their real life. |

Acknowledge the consistency! Message and flow not as strong as the "Rain" of SouthernUnderground but I like Kno's beat this time more.
Richard? It's sampled from The Cascades (same title). |
