As fun as it can be to splash around in one of the Midwest’s many murky lakes, the experience simply doesn’t stack up to a summer day spent watching the tide roll in and out on a sunny saltwater beach. Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, rising R&B star K’Jon is acutely aware of this lack—thus, on his Booth debut, the singer’s elected to treat his fellow Middle-Americans to a little breezy coastal ambiance. Originally released independently in late ‘07, On The Ocean has been selected as the official lead single off Jon’s forthcoming I Get Around LP, and it’s not hard to see why—backed by a mellow, bossa nova-flavored blend of piano and acoustic guitar, (courtesy of K’Jon and Proteus), this summer jam demands to be enjoyed with an umbrella drink in hand, and the singer’s ever-so-slightly weathered vocals drip with old-school soul. This is one hard record to dislike, and those looking for more infectiously sunny cuts will likely find what they’re craving on K’Jon’s major-label debut, set to drop August 4th via Up & Up/Universal Republic. In addition, stay tuned for this single’s Rik Cordero-directed music video, shot yesterday in Detroit.

wait.....this has been on his last 2 albums!!!!!! it came out in 2007! he needs to make a new single! lmao! we been hearin this in Detroit for a long time now. but still a great song.

@lionell - we are definitely "late to the party." We were familiar with this record, but his people never pushed it our way. Finally, we were sent the single version of the record, which was remastered for the Universal Republic release in August- and I am happy we were. This is some near-classic ish.

It gets a little boring, but as richard put it: its hard to dislike. If you close your eyes, the smooth melody and production can put you right there at the ocean. He has some very nice vocals too.

I don't know this dude. It's not my type of song, after a while it gets a lil boring. But I must say the music is amazing! Chillin, smooth, and his voice is really soulful! He has skills both as singer and producer!

Yes this is the cut out right now. It's a bit old, but I still listen to this like it came out yesterday LOL The only thing is tho, I prefer the 1st version. This is the single version, I feel the original version is much better IMO.

Now that I know the name of "on the ocean," I can listen to it over and over. K'Jon has a wonderful voice and its his voice that makes this song so powerful. Thank you for including it in your dj booth. I will listen to more from K'Jon.
