It’s been just three months since King Mez last dropped by the Booth but, in that short span of time, the Carolina mainstay has experienced some big changes in the professional arena. Most notably, he inked a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell. How’s he adapting to the major-label lifestyle? Pretty damn well, judging by freshly-released promo single New Vinyl. Over DMV phenom Oddisee‘s jazzy, luxurious sample work, the longtime Booth fave showcases a thoroughgoing confidence in his abilities, tempered by a healthy skepticism of the music industry: “These young rappers do whatever so they lives change / This game don’t love you neither, watch the way you sign names / I ain’t into playin’ mind games / I just figured that I’ma be the best—my strategy Lebron James.” Like what you’re hearing? Then stay tuned; this joint isn’t attached to a larger project, but we’ll keep you supplied with the latest news and tunes as Mez embarks on the next stage of his career.
