King Mez - Blow
Artist: King Mez
Producer: Commissioner Gordon
Album: The Paraplegics
Label: Unsigned
Don’t worry – North Carolina’s King Mez hasn’t gotten into the cocaine business. The word “Blow” in the title of this newly-leaked album cut (an exclusive world premiere!) refers not to the white powder but rather to what the reader-acclaimed emcee is planning on doing in the music game, preferably sooner rather than later. Commissioner Gordon once again excels behind the boards, setting a triumphant mood with sliced-n-diced brass samples as the headliner informs us just how close he is to his big break. He also manages to drop what has to be the first occurrence of the word “meniscus” in rap history. (Prove me wrong – I dare you.) Topped off with the equally intellectually stimulating guest bars of Virginia native and fellow Booth regular Nickelus F., this ambitious jam and much more can be found on Mez & Gordon’s Kevin Nottingham/DJBooth-sponsored The Paraplegics street album, set to arrive on our front page on June 1.

If you've been a fan of everything we've featured from Mez the past few months... well, nothing will change on this one.
Gordon and Mez know each other so well that their collaborative emcee/producer efforts sound like the workings of a duo that has been at it for 10-15 years. I dare you not to like this... |

North Carolina seems to be pickin' up talent for emcees instead of recruiting hard for Roy Williams! As a UNC fan I'm a little concerned about it, but it's refreshing for Hip-Hop. The hook is alright, but I agree with Z., you better double dare somebody not to like it especially after production like this!

Another classic from King Mez. I have to agree with richard about the meniscus line. It was sick nonetheless. I can't wait for the Commissioner Gordon/ King Mez project to drop. Good work from Nickelus F. as well.

I don't think MEZ is capable of making a bad track. Everything I have heard from has been so dope it's not even funny. Gordon's production augments MEZ's lyrical game so much. Damn, even Nickelus F @*#$! up this beat. Banger.

King Mez lays out a strong performance again with "Blow." Some great board work that has some stong piano and trumpet samples in it and really adds to the overall tone of the track. Mez spits some tight verses and really shows what he can do.
Nickelus gives a good addition to the track but it takes a back seat to Mez and his contributions. Another great track today and one that actually doesn't have an overly serious tone to it, nice way to end out the daily features. Keep in coming Mez. |

This song is a very good production. Except, I am not feeling his voice tat much. The flow is a bit off. It is a good track, the lyrics are fire, but I'm not a fan though. It's just a straight song not much more than that. Not a hit to me.

yea uh dj-z i havnt heard much from this guy and if i have its all pretty much been forgettable for me.
idk it just sounds like much ive heard from others uh srry man i hate too disagree with you but its nothing special to me except the flow in the middle of this song and the way he takes over after the change up in the middle too the end of the beat, ok uhmm yea i change my mind this is actually pretty DAMN GOOD lol that ending was pretty fresh but i feel the beat was holing it back for me by just a little its in rotation and is pretty good overall |

(im on my second listen)
i really like how the flow and his beat were playing ff each other though during this listen but i feel the chorus is a huge letdown it just drags down y feelings towards this song, and his change up in the begining of the middle is fresh i just want too hear more then from the beat and chorus. |

No offense, but too Mase for me.
It does have that jolly, feel-good sound. What the vocal needs to do to elevate that type of sound to the level of high polish is energize it. Breathe soul into it. Unfortunately, I feel like Mez fell short of it. The chorus was tight. I'll admit that. The whole song felt short, too. As if it were a snapshot of a longer one. Hit me like a tiny dose of a lukewarm happiness pill, only that the amount was enough to knock out a rat, perhaps. Little details that are off at the right places, is what I'm trying to say. Vocals, delivery, synergy with the beat. Got to get it perfectly. |

@Sons of Ireland - Let me get this straight. You listened to this song and the rapper comparison you're going to make is to Mase? Go pull out "Harlem World" and then listen to this again. I think you might be off by just a bit...

King Mez has impressed me with every song he has put out. Its hard to even put in order which songs are better than the other. He keeps putting out bangers.

On technical tip there's nothing wrong with this production, nothing I would like to complain or replace about in arrangement, and works efficiently as a background for rhymes, but it isn't too memorable and straight for my liking.
Lyrically, King Mez steps forward but flow-wise Nickelus F trumps him. Overall, there's more to like than to find faults within. And I’ll definitely be looking out for more from this man in the future! |

My first time ever hearing Mez... Overall, the song is pretty dope. Not a huge fan of the hook, but beat and lyrics are working. I would rock this on a mixtape no prob.

I've been out of town for the past 2 days so I hope the booth can excuse my late reviews. I'm going to run through all the tracks I missed real quick.
This track crept up on me a bit. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much. I had never given a King Mez track a listen before and I'm admittedly skeptical when it comes to new artists. However, despite my skepticism, I'm pleased to say I thoroughly enjoyed this track. Everything from the awesome production and solid lyrics work together perfectly. My only beef with the track would be it's mediocre hook. However, this wasn't meant to be a radio hit so I'll excuse it. This is a certified banger. |

The production is just right in that its not so crazy yet its the perfect balance of taking some of the spotlight while allowing Mez and Nickelus to shine. I hope Mez "Blows" for sure because he can spit. And to actually hear a great hook for once out of today's batch of songs is a relief!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did the beat seem almost salsa inspired? I really digg it, in my opinion it was the most solid part of the song.
@Z, I completely agree, Gordon and Mez seemed to really work well together, production was hot! Loved it all the way through, also props to Nickelus F., great flow. 3.5 rounded up. |

@DJ Z And off I am.
The Mase that I thought I knew of was solely from that comeback he made a couple of years ago. "Harlem World" is a Mase that I should have known. I have been properly schooled. |

The beat is what caught me at first, but since it's repeat worthy, I caught some nice quotes afterwards and ended up thinking this is something I'd like to hear Consequence rappin too... moral of the story is: this is G.O.O.D. music!

Three things ALWAYS stand out to me on Mez's records. 1. Above average bars 2. Ear catchy production 3. The mix ALWAYS needs work.

Commissioner Gordon, constructed the kind of beat that i would expect Kanye to make, verses were on-point, the only thing that keeps this track down is the hook.
