Three months ago The DJBooth teamed up with ReverbNation for a contest that would give up-and-coming artists worldwide the chance to Flip instrumentals from standout producer Shane Eli into fully formed, original work. After combing through approximately 1,500 submissions, we’re proud to announce that Mt. Vernon, NY duo KIN4LIFE have won the artist category with their cut Ask About Me. Using Eli’s Clear ‘Em Out instrumental as a foundation, group members Nor and IQ pull double duty, providing their own production touch on the darkly haunting beat while also grabbing the mic to lay down boldly honest rhymes: “I stare down the barrel of fate / life is like a game of Russian roulette / you just prayin for your shot while you facin your death.” Now that, my friends, is how you flip a track. Both new found and longtime fans of KIN4LIFE can keep an ear out for their track Money Brings Trouble to be featured in the upcoming movie, Changing the Game. And while the contest portion is closed, DJs, producers and emcees alike can still stream and download The Flip‘s dope instrumentals for free right now.
