Killer Mike - Swimming
Artist: Killer Mike
Producer: Flying Lotus
Album: Pledge Allegiance to the Grind 3
Label: GTO/Grand Hustle
Whether you know him as Killer Mike, Mike Bigga or simply that dude who used to run with Outkast, there’s no denying that Mike stays on his grind – but I guarantee you’ve never heard him grind quite like this. While his last effort, the T.I. collabo Ready Set Go, was a prototypical banger, his new leak Swimming is the type of spacey, synthy track usually reserved for more adventurous rappers. Swimming owes much of its uniqueness to beatsmith Flying Lotus – whom many know as the unofficial DJ of the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim – and his eminently laid back beat, but Mike and guest artist Rock D balance out Swimming’s surrealistic sonic backdrop with some straight-forward, lady-lovin rhymes: “She said you got a woman, keep it straight with me / I said I got several, a couple you can date with me.” Will tracks like Swimming be the exception to the rule on Mike’s upcoming Pledge Allegiance to the Grind 3, or the new norm? We’ll have to wait until the street album drops…”soon.”

Totally dig the sound of this record. A track like "Swimming" exemplifies Mike's ability to step outside the proverbial box and instead of swinging and missing like many of his cohorts, he hits a homerun. I could have done without the Rock D guest feature, but those 16 bars don't water down my rating at all. I am going all high marks today.

the instrumental is decet. but the vocals during the verse annoy the heck out of me and don't seem to fit. I think it ruined the song. It's distracting and just plain old bad. Whoever the hook bothered me too. 1.5 stars

I couldn't get pass the weird beat that just ruins the song. Rock D should of been left out, he didn't bring much to song and Mike dosen't need any features to have a dope record.

I like how it's quite experimental, but the voice didn't suit the beat at times I thought, I wreckin' if they spent more time on this track it coulda been a bit better

I was absolutely loving this one, definitely not what you normally hear from Mike, although I have to say that my enjoyment is about 60% the beat and 40% the rhymes (maybe even 70/30). Either way, I'll have Swimming on repeat all day. Grind Time!

I hope this is the new norm. Its very different, but in the best of ways. The title was great choice for this song because the beat really sounds like its swimming out of the speakers. Those synths were crazy. If Killer Mike/Mike Bigga can deliver gems like this, his next album will be a great comeback. Grand Hustle's roster has become impressive expecially so if there is more like this on the way.

Killer Mike was nice on this with the lyrics. The hook definitely ruined this track. The beat sounded all over the place also.

Killer Mike Killed another track. even though the hook was a little annoying, this song was really good. The beat should be cleaned up a bit though, it went everywhere. He is real talented and can get real famous real soon.

The production is very noisy and distracting. I cant focus on the artists featured on this track at all because of the annoying production work.
