What if gangsta rap were a video game? I would imagine it’d be a Sonic the Hedgehog-esque platformer—the levels would be set in inner-city streets across America, where you’d avoid the police and other obstacles, collecting money and other useful objects along the way. Then again, I probably wouldn’t be the best person to ask what exactly “Gangsta Rap: The Video Game” would be like; Killer Mike, however, might have a few ideas on the subject. On In My City, a record found on both the recently-released Greg Hustle (Vol. 1) mixtape and Killa’s forthcoming Grand Hustle debut, Mike details a scenario that would seem perfectly at home in such a game. DJ Don Cannon backs Mike’s rhymes with some catchy, funk-influenced boardwork, and Forrest City Prison-based rapper T.I. even steps up to the mic to deliver some rapped hook vocals. Hey, maybe Tip can contribute ideas for a prison level in our hypothetical game—the possibilities are really endless!

Killa mike went off on this one. He painted a picture that I could vividly see. Kinda reminded me of how Ice Cube layed out "Today was a good day" I was just waiting for him to say, "The Hawk's beat the Thunder" The beat was easy to ride to. Hook was easy to vibe to. Where was T.I. though????

Killer Mike is good. this isnt my favorite of his. first verse wasnt great. 2nd verse is hot. T.I. shud have a bar instead of the hook. |

I like the light production from Cannon, and this beat packs a bit of a harder edge to add to it. Killer flows well over it, and the sample throughout is cool.

Don Cannon brings a fresh beat for Killer Mike to rap on. I can barely hear T.I.'s voice on here so if your gonna feature him he should at least get a verse. Killer Mike's laid back flow was pretty solid and I can see this as a great track to cruise to. Rotation status

yehh i really see the ugk vibe everyones talking about. killer mike has been pretty versatile, after a long period of time a lot of emcees tend to reach a spot where they don't really exceed any of your expectations nor try to reinvent themselves (atleast do it successfuly) but killer mike has done a good job of aproaching the game from differnt angles. nice listen

Killer Mike?!...Killer Track!
Production by Cannon is on point and there never anything to complain about when it comes to Mike's lyricism. Hopefully being with Grand Hustle will help Mike get a little more recognized and it's also good that TIP was only on the hook or else he'd be garnering all the attention this one. Agree with spinz on the slight UGK Vibe, but to me that only makes it better. Banger. At home OR in the trunk. |
