Kidz In The Hall - Crash Dummy
Artist: Kidz In The Hall
Featuring: Killa Kyleon
Producer: Double-O
Album: Occasion
Label: Duck Down Music
At first, I thought Crash Dummy was a Lil Wayne song (emcee Naledge gave me that Weezy vibe in the first verse), but instead Kidz In The Hall’s new release is further evidence of the duo’s versatility. The two Ivy League graduates have accomplished something never done before, creating a song that sounds like it came directly from the street. Double-O’s rumbling, addictive production work resembles something you would hear T.I. jump on, while just to further blur the lines they invite Lone Star State rider Killa Kyleon for a guest verse that’s as wood-grain gripped as expected. From the banging beat and concept to the backpacker lyricism, The Kidz are simply the most mainstream underground group working. And yes, that’s a complete paradox, but expect both underground heads and causal mainstream listeners to turn up the volume on Crash Dummy. In a nutshell, this record has an appeal to every type of hip hop listener, from the underground hip-hop fan to the mainstream fan, the dirty south fan to the gangsta fan. Is that a good thing? If you answered “Yes” be sure to cop their November 22 release Occasion, available for pre-order now.

Of late, I've noticed that KITH have been working more closely with southern region artists. Not sure if this was a purposeful move (to expand their audience) or just an unplanned coincidence, but it sounds good to me.

I didn't think I was going to like this after the first 15 seconds, but by 30 seconds my head was bumping. I like the beat and the flow is OK. This is better than most stuff on the radio. I'll give it a few spins...
