Kidz In The Hall - Out to Lunch
Artist: Kidz In The Hall
Featuring: The Kid Daytona
Producer: Double-O
Album: Land of Make Believe
Label: Duck Down Music
In his recent DJBooth In the Mix interview, Kidz in the Hall emcee Naledge promised that Land of Make Believe, the new album from himself and musical compatriot Double O, would give us insight into their everyday life, and if that’s true, than Naledge spends every day staring at tig ol bitties. Or at least that’s what their new single Out to Lunch would lead us to believe. Also featuring a guest verse from the slightly confusingly named Kid Daytona (he’s from the Bronx), Out to Lunch is first and foremost a Kidz cut, as Double O crafts a minimalistic, almost boom-bap beat and Naledge spits the type of deceptively hilarious lines he’s become known for: “Call me Mr. Areola, every ni**a feels me.” See, I told you the man enjoyed his breast-related references. Out to Lunch will be a bonus track on our Booth Vol. 4 mixtape, out Monday, March 8, and of course on Land of Make Believe, dropping March 9. Plan accordingly.

If we are discussing new school producers whose sound is consistently dope... we MUST mention Double-O, who takes a very simplistic approach to this record - but it works so well. It is tailored perfectly to both Naledge and Daytona and allows all three artists to shine doing what they do.

Kidz in the hall hallway always bring that fresh sound. Kid Daytona impressed me and the beat is pretty dynamic despite have too much instrumentation

This sounds really amatuer and childish to me.

I really don't know what to make about this one. I'm usually a big Double O fan, and I hear what he's going for here, but the beat just doesn't grab me, and while Naledge drops some great lines (per usual), overall I don't know if he's really bringing it. Then again, after a few more listens I could really see it becoming a favorite.
Maybe it's the hook? Anyway, just can't get as down to it as I hoped. |

first verse was really good, hook needed work but overall a nice track. double-o was solid.
on the side: this might be just me but lately lots of hooks are under par, artists are choosing to focus more on their verses. is it time for the 'hookmen' akon and t-pain to come back or is this a new direction the game is heading in? |

"get on your knees and down loads like an ipod" hahaha This is pretty dope, it's one of those songs that you have to let marinade before you can appreciate the true flavor. Double-o successfully meshes old and new school on this beat.

The production is ok, Naledge is the highlight for me on this track. The sooner he goes solo & starts working with some of the games best producers the better for hip hop
