The Kid Daytona - Do You Believe (Tona's Song)
Artist: The Kid Daytona
Producer: 6th Sense
Album: Unreleased
Label: Jack Move Inc.
Last we heard from The Kid Daytona, he was enjoying a 1st Class Upgrade on an unreleased cut that won lofty praise from our readers. Roughly four months later, it seems that the Bronx rapper’s flying higher than ever. On his latest feature, potential mixtape inclusion Do You Believe (Tona’s Song), he exults in his success to date, kicking things off with the uplifting lines “Hello new day, I love waking up to you / every day is something new, gotta make it up to you…” 6th Sense mans the boards here, backing the emcee’s soaring sentiments with a sample listeners may recognize from Jay-Z‘s Hova’s Song. The choral backdrop, grabbed from soul group The Rotary Connection’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’ Burning of the Midnight Lamp, sounds just as fresh today as it did back in ‘99, but does Daytona do full justice to the classic instrumental? I’ll leave that for you to decide. Do You Believe may or may not be included on the emcee’s forthcoming, LRG/Green Lantern-presented The Interlude mixtape, which has yet to receive a solid release date. Keep it locked to DJBooth.net for further details!

Daytona's earning my respect a little bit more with every track. His slow flow here can get a little basic at times, but overall it's still on point. The Kid's got huge potential.
"You like AI, don't pass, nobody want your, old ass." I don't know what's sadder, that rappers are using Iverson's name a diss, or that I can't argue with them. |

Flow is not quite as gripping as I'd like it to be, but lyrics are good nonetheless... 2.5

With production like this, the beat has to be thumpin. And I'm not feelin the John Wayne cowboy whistlin.
