Last we heard from The Kid Daytona, he was enjoying a 1st Class Upgrade on an unreleased cut that won lofty praise from our readers. Roughly four months later, it seems that the Bronx rapper’s flying higher than ever. On his latest feature, potential mixtape inclusion Do You Believe (Tona’s Song), he exults in his success to date, kicking things off with the uplifting lines “Hello new day, I love waking up to you / every day is something new, gotta make it up to you…6th Sense mans the boards here, backing the emcee’s soaring sentiments with a sample listeners may recognize from Jay-Z‘s Hova’s Song. The choral backdrop, grabbed from soul group The Rotary Connection’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’ Burning of the Midnight Lamp, sounds just as fresh today as it did back in ‘99, but does Daytona do full justice to the classic instrumental? I’ll leave that for you to decide. Do You Believe may or may not be included on the emcee’s forthcoming, LRG/Green Lantern-presented The Interlude mixtape, which has yet to receive a solid release date.
