With fans everywhere suiting up to accompany Kid CuDi on his long-awaited lunar voyage, the left-of-center hitmaker is hoping to stoke the already tremendous buzz surrounding his debut’s Sept.15 release even higher with the release of his third single. Debuted in the U.S. on last Friday’s episode of Late Night with David Letterman, The Pursuit of Happiness is a hip-hop (sort of) anthem with a hipster-rific pedigree. CuDi’s sung verses have the same dissociative vibe here as on Day N Nite, but Brooklyn electronic duo Ratatat‘s dense, bass-heavy blend of synth swooshes and rhythmic piano chords results in a considerably more uplifting track than the artist’s breakout hit. Topped off with indie-rockers MGMT‘s sing-along hook, TPoH serves as a climactic segue into Man on the Moon: The End of Day‘s final act. Complications regarding the LP’s liner notes and iTunes coding prevented Kid CuDi from stepping into the Booth for his scheduled interview, but fans should be sure to read our own Nathan S.’ take on the debut album.

Like the rest of CuDi's new album, Pursuit Of Happiness is the furthest thing from a hip hop record. If you can put to the side your knowledge of CuDi the rapper (think Kanye pre-VMA incident/808s era haha), this should be very well received.
Nice selection for the new single. MGMT really did a great job making this hook radio ready and helping Cudi prime for a big next few months.

I'm real excited for Cudi, he really isn't a rapper most of time but it's still hip hop. This is defently a favorite on the album, along with alot of great songs on there.
Ratatat come with great work on the album, evidence of this song and I love MGMT's hook. There's really nothing worng with this song. |

I've been waiting for this album for a while... I agree with Hoam, Cudi isn't a "rapper" most of the time, but he's always real every time he picks up the mic. Singing or rapping, call it what you want, but he is one of the few left out there who is truly passionate about his work. There is not a song on this entire CD which contradicts his love for the game. Great CD and great song.

Whether or not this is a Rap album or what its good music. Any open minded head who doesn't want to keep Hip Hop closed in a lil box will enjoy it. I f*ckin do!
He’s got his own flair, the way he sounds and flows, almost spoken-wordish delivery, and mixes original rhymes, and mostly doesn't shy away from EMOTIONS!! which makes his average at best lyrical skills reach your deep thoughts. |

I've hear a few songs of his Man on the Moon and you can definitely tell he helped inspire Kanye's mood on 808 and Heartbreak's. Kid Cudi definitively has his own style he sound like no one out right now. I've heard some people call his music EMO rap but he crosses some many genres it's not fair to pigeonhole him. Either way the song is mad elective, beat is sick and MGMT did a great job on the hook. BANGER!!

This is pretty dope. Like I mentioned before, MAN ON THE MOON won't be my favorite album anytime soon, but I still rock with Cudi. I rock with this record. I do hope his next album will have some more of the rap side of Cudi though. (I'm a very open minded person as you guys all know, but I sort of felt left out of fully experiencing the album how it was supposed to be experienced because I don't smoke weed. All my friends I know who do was like "THIS ISH WAS CRAZY ILL! I WAS HIGH AND IT WAS ALL TRIPPY!). I'm still liking his mixtape "A Kid Named Cudi" over the album, in my opinion. #JustMyPreference (Did I just do a Twitter thing on DJBOOTH? SMH at myself...lol)
Random thought: You think the radios will edit out the past where he says "Driving Drunk"? I think they will. LOL. |

To everyone talkin bout him not rappin: The title of the cd is Man On The Moon. Does that even sound like a rap album to u? CuDi is showing off his style and flare on this album. Also, like "Mr. Top Hat" said, he reaches ur emotions and makes the song feel real. Never really was a fan of Cudi, Day N Nite made me give him a listen and after reading the album review on here how songs made high sound better high, I've been reevaluating him. As someone who smokes fairly often, I could definitely see myself enjoying this album front to back and I feel like that might be how he wanted this album to be listened to. I'm afraid to say it, but I'm beginning to become a fan. Although not my favorite type of music that you can just bump to, this might be my new music of choice to chill to.

Cudi's Verses are actually tight as hell in this track, he may not go hella hard on every track but this here is gonna drive the hood nuts. PLUS the work of MGMT is wicked tight here (this will be a song to mess with) As for the CUDI > Drake... that is a fallacy DRAKE is 101% better...the guitar at the end is filthy 3.75 Stars but I cant rate like that.
