“Be yourself” is a piece of advice we’ve all been given but, when it comes right down to it, the vast majority of us will make certain concessions to fit in with the crowd. Not Kent M$NEY; as evidenced by his unconventional and ruggedly individualistic use of the dollar sign to stand in for the letter ”O,” the Surf Club member is all about blazing trails and doing things his way – as he puts it on his first feature, a standout cut off his debut EP, “You’re Nothing Like Me.” Booth fave (and freestyle series alum) Big K.R.I.T. handles production duties, crafting a catchy Chipmunk-sampled backdrop for his West Coast cohort’s unique blend of braggadocio and insight: “A prayer’s what I got, miracle of a baby / Life is what you make it, how spiritual of the lady.” On the back end, K.R.I.T. steps out from behind the boards to flaunt his mic skills and scold sucker emcees for their lack of “gumption.” So, has Kent M$NEY succeeded in setting himself apart from the pack? If you think so, you can hear more where this came from on the Cali up-and-comer’s Becoming EP, released August 2, and out now online.

I am not usually a fan of emcee's with the word "Money" (spelled correctly or not) in their stage name, but it seems as though Kent has thrown a monkey wrench into my fandom theory. Though a an obvious beneficiary of some excellent Big K.R.I.T. production, Kent doesn't become an afterthought on his own record. As a matter of fact he shares in owning the record. Good stuff.

From a first listen alone, the production and K.R.I.T.'s verses stood out the most to me. Kent is on a good level, but IMO, K.R.I.T. stole the show with the hook and the last verse. I see definite potential in this up and coming emcee, though. Might have to go check out that EP of his.

This here go hard man. The homie K.R.I.T. killed it man. Kent M$NEY was cool on this track too. I don't care what they say this is a southern beat here. Hot beat by K.R.I.T.

Damn, I'm feeling a little grumpy this morning. I need to sleep more. At another time I could find myself feeling this more, but right now, I'm feeling like the beat's good but not nearly one of Krit's best, and the lyrics are decent but relatively forgettable. Decent.

It seems like wherever good music is, Big K.R.I.T. is not too far away. The production is preposterously good!

If an artist is going on the same track as Big K.R.I.T, they better bring their best to the mic. Kent did not.
