On Cartoon & Cereal, producer THC‘s unsettling sample work sets the mood for restlessly-flowed bars recounting the West Coast phenom’s growth from a naive youth to an inveterate hustler. Maybach Music Group‘s Gunplay contributes a gruffly-flowed guest verse on the front. This evening, Kendrick Lamar, Drake and more kick off the latter’s headlining tour with a performance in Miami. Kendrick Lamar is everywhere! It's a good thing, because his flow is on-point. I like how its a unique delivery that everyone else is doing and the beat is also unique. I like the style of the chorus and the off-base approach. Good $hit!

Kendrick, son, I am disappoint.
You can't just disregard rhythm like that on the 'hook'. Naturally, the bottom tier Hip Hop heads will say otherwise because they love the noise. You can set them apart because they'll be like "DURRHURR UNORTHODOX HOOK FI STARZ DOE BRUHH HATERZ GUNNA HAET!!1!". THC's beat has some annoying red flags in it, which doesn't help, particularly the "BRRRRRRRRRRR" and "BRRA BRRA BRRA BRAA BRRA" or whatever the hell it is (in the hook, of course). He could be saying real words for all I care, but that style of ad libs is an ignant calling card that I'd never have dreamed to hear on the same track as Kendrick. He's capable of so much more than whatever this was; I can see the reasoning behind not releasing it. |

The song doesn't need a crazy hook, it serves it's purpose as a part of the canvas. This song is untouchable on so many levels. Stop trying to box it in.
