KAZE - Fresh
Artist: KAZE
Producer: 9th Wonder
Album: First in Flight EP
Label: Sound of the Culture
If there’s one thing one needs in order to make a favorable first impression in or out of the Booth, it’s confidence; proper hygiene, however, would be a very close runner-up. Since pleasant smells can’t be transmitted over the web (...yet?), underground emcee KAZE has wisely taken his latest single (and Booth debut) as an opportunity to assure both devotees and soon-to-be-fans that he is “Fresh, like right out the shower.” The North Carolina rapper’s “suave and debonair” description of his pristine duds and meticulous grooming routine will doubtless bring back memories of a certain Outkast hit, but the lyrical theme certainly hasn’t lost its luster, and 9th Wonder‘s funk-sampling boardwork imbues this record with a squeaky-clean feel all its own. Topped off with the equally spotless hook vocals of fellow Tarheel State native Mr. Mohalyn, this is both a catchy record and a helpful reminder for certain individuals who haven’t showered yet today (yeah, I know; working from home is no excuse). If you’re digging KAZE’s Fresh underground sound, be sure to pick up a copy of his First In Flight EP, set to drop in August.

People ripped me a few weeks back when I admitted I was not "up on" KAZE. One listen to "Fresh" and I was kinda upset I let him slide by. This record has a title that explains what its all about.
"You only get one chance to make a first impression" ... exactly. |

Unique without a doubt, this was hot in its own way. KAZE held it down on his own but the production didn't hurt neither. Can definitely rock with this one.

DAMN! I really didn't knew what to expect from this. For one its tagged as "Dirty South" and the title is one of the most overused word in Hip-Hop but what caught me by surprise is dat its produced by 9th Wonder (that alone demands a listen, right?)
By the time the song's over, the only thing memorable about it is the Phresh! 9th Wonder beat, now that doesn't say KAZE is down-right bad its just that nothing about his rhymes on this song or his flow on is worth mentioning. |
