Kanye West - Runaway
Artist: Kanye West
Featuring: Pusha T
Producer: Kanye West
Album: My Dark Twisted Fantasy
Label: Def Jam/IDJMG
While Taylor Swift was being immature Sunday night, singing about Kanye being immature, Kanye did the opposite, acknowledging his immaturity on his new song, Runaway. (Follow that?) On the MTV VMAs stage with just a MPC and a red suit, Kanye brought on newly signed G.O.O.D. Music member Pusha T (of the Clipse) to premiere a record whose official audio is now getting mixed reviews. Produced by Yeezy himself, the beat is Ambien slow, anchored by only a piano melody and a simple drum pattern. On the mic, although we finally got Ye back to spitting hot bars on first single Power, unfortunately (to some like myself) West has gone back to his 808s and Heartbreak ways, singing his way through the song. It isn’t until Pusha comes in to rip a 16 on the back end that Runaway starts to come together and really sound captivating. Although the hook will certainly provide all the a**holes and other vulgar worded people out there a new anthem, wouldn’t it be nice if Ye just stuck to rapping on his upcoming, still untitled and unscheduled new album?

The chorus is comical and I much prefer the rapping Kanye to the singing one, but that beat is a monster. On the strength of the production alone this song is a 4.
Thank you to Kanye for all the quality new music. He has really shown everyone how serious, if we didn't already know, he is about this new project. |

Another crazy beat. Some more dope rhymes, from Pusha too. Just another great song this week from Kanye. This dude keeps raising the bar, every week it's almost like how much can he impress this time. Well he did it again.

Kanye pretty much sounds like crap on here. Pusha T sounds like a beast tho. Ye shoulda jus given this beat to Pusha T. you would be lookin at a 4.5 - 5.0 song.

The production drags along perfectly, and the simple piano plunks are perfect. Kanye does a good job being sincere and being funny at the same time. Pusha does his thing on the back end, I'm feelin the track.

If you ask me, Kanye singing auto tune isn't the worst thing in the world. IMO, it didn't work that well on this record, but in the past he has shined. His VMA performance was hot (Sorry Taylor).
I'm not that big a fan of the chorus or his singing for that matter, Pusha on the other hand, elevated this up with his verse, as did the production. Not the greatest Kanye track I've heard, but I'm not gonna lie, this was an all around good song for the man. |

Maybe not a 5-star effort here, but just everything Kanye has been doing in the past month or so has finally made me believe he is back from the 'slump' he's been having ever since his old school days. No, he didn't revert to his old ways, he's only created himself into another completely different person. The only thing he's kept since he has been around is his ego, and that's one of the main reasons I value him in my top 10 rappers. (others hate him for his ego, I'm a bit different)

The perfect mix between his two styles. We had to realize that he wasn't going to totally abandon his 808's style, and if this is what he's going to do with it then by all means!!!!

I'm actually a big 808's fan, so I have no problems with a track like this. He is giving away so many quality records, who knows whats actually going to be on the album!

Another case of the artist being judged & not the music. If this was a Kid Cudi track the word classic would be thrown around by everybody (whose singing is just as bad as Kanye's by the way). But no, Kanye West is not allowed to sing ever. Hypocrisy. I loved this. Pusha T laced it with some hot flows. Classic in my eyes.

Eh - out of all the dope new music Kanye's put out lately this is my least favorite. He just doesn't sound good singing (without auto-tune), and when the headliner on a record doesn't sound good, that's not a small deal.
With that said, if this is the weakest track on his upcoming album, we're looking at yet another classic. |

I am really in live with this beat. This is not the deepest song by any means, but it has been stuck in my head since the vmas. Apparently Kanye has graduated from his past works and is now simply a Scholar you is using his knowledge to the best of his ability. Its great to hear Pusha on here, although he sounds kinda alone without mal. I don't care if kanye doesnt have a commercial single, he is making quality music thatis like nothing else out there.

I think I'm going to absolutely love the final version when it comes out, but this definitely ISN'T the final CDQ album version. Kanye usually goes crazy over perfecting everything, and his vocals here just don't sound final, along with a lot of the rest of the track (besides the production which sounds amazing) I think this song will be at banger status once it is fully perfected and officially released by Kanye himself.

So... I really enjoyed his VMA performance, except that autotune in itself isn't great, and live autotune makes it terrible. Great song, though Pusha T is the highlight.

First immediately I thought he should have a real singer on this track. Maybe an indie rock singer. The beat is nice....I can't get past his singing though. This shit is trash. It's kinda making me upset. He used to be up there for me. I bought every album he had & this is how I get repaid. I wanna believe he's being creative but this isn't creative. Its just him doing & saying anything, thinking we'll buy his bullshit. Reminds me of college art classes. People would bring shit & say it was art. The teacher would never buy it though. lol. Don't try to shock us Ye, we've seen it before.

i don't think i've ever rated a song this high. the production is minimalistic, yet still great. the vibe of the song and what he's saying is something anyone can relate to at times. the chorus isn't my favorite, but a solid record overall.
