Before Kanye West was tabbed to close last Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, word had already begun to circulate on the Net that he had a new single and album in the works. Indeed, both rumors are true, as the Chicagoan is preparing for a December 16 release of 808’s & Heartbreak, his fourth studio album in the last five years. West’s name was in the spotlight last week, but unfortunately it wasn’t solely because of his new singing style or the throwback grey digs he donned at the awards. The same day that Def Jam released a supposedly mastered version (we are still suspicious) of West’s new single, Love Lockdown, the musician and his manager were arrested at LAX after an altercation with a member of the paparazzi, and charged with felony vandalism. Ironically, it was West who found himself behind bars by the end of the day.
Update: Kanye has provided a newly-mastered version of Love Lockdown.
So hot! This is such a creative and ingenious way for Kanye to take hip hop, I can't remember any other kind of style similar to this. I am definetly feeling the new Kanye look here, but it also sounds like an unmixed kind of version. Still, Kanye proves again that he is a pure genius. He said on his blog that this was his favorite song he has ever recorded, so we'll see how the rest of the album ends up!
i thought the album was A GOOD ASS JOB? i guess i was wrong. Im sick of his auto tuner stuff. He needs to leave the singing to Bilal, Dwele, and John Legend. He's a rapper not a pop star. or T-Pain. West is my favorite rapper but im losing alot of respect and now i gotta put Game and Jay up there.
I agree with cb, West is not just a rapper, he's a producer, and if he wants to express his hip hop game on another level then so be it. I can dig it and others can too, this track is a big up for me... love the works.
I hate to say it Mr. West but I don't know what you are thinkin on this sh*t. I got respect for him because he is always going places no one else has ever been, but that doesnt make it a good song. Personally I wont listen to this. I am pissed I am gonna here this on the radio all the time. It will be a hit for sure, but that doesnt make it good, just ask pretty much all mainstream hip hop right now........ This dont cut it for me, but I am still lookin forward to the album.
This is what I call a Beetles Bass Blues Samba Groove right here. I've never heard anything like it. EVER. By the way I think this is how he wanted it recorded, muffled and raw! WHY? Cause like I said I've never heard anything like it, EVER~!! Kanye is the Leader of Music for this era and we are witnessing one of the greats at rare form right b4 our very eyes. Expect more artist to follow his lead as usual. This Will be His ALBUM OF THE YEAR year. AFter deserving it every year, now he will finally get it. I expect 808's and Heartbreak to be his most memorable album to date. Why? Cause the guy just gets better and more bizarre every year.
You know much respect to Kanye. I was, in fact still am a huge fan.
But I really don't feel this track.
I really miss the best of Kanye which was college dropout, this new stuff just makes me miss the old.
Not hatin. I still love Kanye.
But this really isn't like him. Really odd track.
The quality of this version is absolutely horrendous, so I hope that gets a makeover first of all because I'm starting to wonder if "Love Lockdown" is really as bad as it sounds. From a hip-hop perspective, this track is probably the worst song I've ever heard in my life. But from a music enthusiast perspective, the record really isn't painfully terrible. "Love Lockdown" solidifies the notion that Kanye no longer wants to limit himself as merely a rapper. After the overwhelming success of "Graduation" and the GITD Tour, he's nothing less than an international pop star now. I'm not expecting much from "808's & Heartbreaks" because my love for hip-hop always overpowers my appreciation for the stuff they call "other music." Sorry, Kanye, but this ain't for me.
been listening to this joint for a few days now...still kinda lost every time i hear it. very odd vibe and no rapping (or singing technically) at all, so what does that make it? maybe just another hit for kanye i dunno bout this 1
im feelin this, it has that raw sound to it like he recorded this in a dirty basement lmao, sound quality isnt everything, prince's dirty mind album sounded so raw and its considered a classic
This whole song I was waiting for the "real beat" to drop. I really didnt think this would keep on going for the FULL 4 minutes. But i guess in the end... it's just OK.
i was also wondering a week ago when this came out why the bass quality is so bad. I guess he did this on purpose cuz even the mastered version and all the different downloads on the internet are like that. I havent found one where the quality is clear. Personally, it makes the song better. The beat is so simple but it is perfect for Ye's vocals. I like this blues/r&b song. This shyt is hot and it is a classic. Might not get a lot of radioplay though. 5!!!
From the moment I saw the performance, I knew this was a classic. I think Kanye knows exactly what he's doing. I'm glad Kanye is being original and creative. He's taking urban music to an entirely different level. Of course, some of the fans aren't going to be able to get with it because they are too closed minded. That's okay. You guys will just miss out. Like Ye says ,if you keep your love "locked down", you lose. Simple as that. I know this isn't the fully mastered version, but it's a suitable version for now. I know when it officially drops, it will go straight to #1 and the video will be even crazier!
I can't rate this...
At least not right now... I'm debating with myself about this song, Because Kanye is my favorite rapper... But i wish he would please put the auto-turner down, PLEASE KANYE!
KINDA WEIRD,TO ME KANYE HAS AFEW MISS AND HIT TRACKS,AND FOR ME THIS IS A MISS I LIKED IT WHEN HE WAS DUIN HIS THING ON PUT ON AND STUFF LIKE THAT NOT THIS BUT ILL LET IT GROW ON ME FOR AWHILE AND SEE HOW IT GOES..
the un-mastered version was way more hype and way better.. the hook on this sounds soooo off. this sucks.
im keeping my "live" version on my mp3 player...
Original track! I didn't expect something like this, it surprised me...it was a good surprise to ascertain he sings well, that the song has a good melody and a really peculiar production, but it was a really bad suprise to hear another voice computerized. Why don't u sing with your voices?! It's more than I can bear.
I won't get to listen to this until 3rd Period, im in 1st right now lol, But i seen a few comments on some of his last songs and this one about how Kanye is changin hip hop and everything, and its not true.. Kanye isn't really changing anything IMO, he's just letting his creativity flow.. he's not the Leader of Music for this era either, BDF, Lil Wayne is, and i'm not sayin that because i like him, and i'm not sayin that because people say he's the "Greatest Rapper Alive", i'm saying it because its TRUE, what is this world made up more of, adults or children? Children, and who do they want to listen to, Kanye or Wayne?, Wayne, face it, Weezy just gets out to a more wider audience,do you see more people listening to Weezy or Kanye in there cars? Exactly, Making him the Leader of Music for our era IMHO, i'll come back and rate when i've heard the song..
This is an extremely creative song on Kanye's part. It really goes out on a limb here. The beat is nice on here. Get ready for Kanye vs. 50-cent again for this holiday season! Go check out the T-Pain 50-cent Can't believe it remix on youtube!!! Back to the track. It is really nice and smooth, but I can't listen to it over and over again, so I can't call it a Banger or even a Classic. I will DEFINITELY throw this into rotation because I wouldn't mind hearing it played on the radio and in clubs and such. I just don't think he has the voice for singing, even if it is just playing around with the T-Pain machine. Sounds like he had a lot of fun making this track though!
Alright, just heard it, this song is kinda weird, one thing being i've never really heard Kanye try to "sing" like on this track, two, because the production is crazy.. not as in good crazy either.. I'll listen to it again though, if the clapping or something it could possibly be a beat, but the clapping and stomping like sound kill it for me... but it does sound like he had fun with makin the track lol.
i LOVE the lyrics. i dont like this. i will play this as a lullaby so i can fall asleep after a couple shots of bacardi & heineken & 211's. i'm sure i will LOVE it when im under the influence. nut i think with this he is trying too hard to be different (creative)... i'll call him tpain jr.
=(
lol dis version suxs to me. The live version was way betta. dis version doesn' t have da feeling and vibe it did when he performed it live. i pray he redoes dis edition plz. but for da song its a classic. BTW da hook sounds tore up.
no one else would have come up with anything close to this. ye is a genius and is constantly keeping the game on its toes.
without him we wouldn't have half the tracks we all love and listen to it.
he's a one man revolution and i doubt anyone can argue that
Kanye West is always willing to try something new and this is a hit and miss for me. Its extremely catchy and is meant for mainstream but in a hiphop prespective... still a banger though.
im sorry....truly sorry kanye..but well...i am one HUGE fan of you, but anyhow the whole album is like this..then you will drop off the list of my favourite rappers
This song... is interesting. I don't like the auto-tune, nor do I like Kanye's pathetic attempt at singing. It lacks entirely in lyrical content... Yet it's so addicting I been listening to it ever since I downloaded it. I guess it's the production, which I love, and the originality. Props for something new, 4* cuz i like it for some unknown reason, hope the rumor of the whole album being autotune is wrong. And Weezy is not the leader of music. I'd give that title to the country genre or Kanye, cuz Kanye reaches so many more ppl; Weezy is still held back by the rapper title, at least to some
aspiring dj, we're not talking about the GENRE, we're talking about the one single person, and that is Weezy... not Kanye for the second time, Do you hear more people talking about Kanye or Weezy? Do you hear people talk about a certain song by Weezy or Kanye when it comes out like Lollipop did for so long? and the last one, Does Kanye make slogans? Weezy has tons!!, exactly, I'm not defending that title anymore, this is the last time, not being a d!ck, just stating a fact..
Blaze, now I know you are a diehard 50 fan, but I just Youtubed that remix, and man was that awful. 50 sounds so awful on that voicebox that its not even funny bro. He's the first artist I've heard that still can't carry a tune on a voice enhancer.
man 50 and Kanye gotta put down the box, not feeling either with it.
As for the song would've been great if it was being sung not tuned. Every time the song gets into a groove that brutal chorus just kills the flow. This sounds like one of Moby's old songs.
The track is very unique. I'm definitely feelin it. As for the autotune, I like Kanye's quote from his blog "if you don't like autotune... too bad cause I love it and have been using it since the College Dropout!!!" Once again, Kanye doesn't give a damn what anybody else thinks. Some of my favorite songs of Kanyes are the ones that don't make it mainstream. In my opinion, this is what makes him a great artist.
Kanye has been and will be a monster on the production end but this singing has got to stop after this song...glad he got it off his chest, now lets bury the singing and move on..I think thats why the quality of this song is so poor. Me personally, i'm diggin it, except when he's trying to hit them high notes...overall very original and will def listen to it again
hmmmm im still not sure how i feel about this song.. i mean the Louis Vutton Don usually always spits out that hot fire, ya feel me that fluffy white.. but this one rite here is ... hmmm i dunno... but i'l keep it in rotation
I think it may grow on me over time, especially if I start hearin it everywhere. Regardless of this song, I can't wait to hear the album. It should be by far his most creative. The beat is pretty cool. Besides, if everyone an get down wit "Lollipop" and "Whatever You Like," they can get down wit this one. This song could signal the direction that music should be going.
yo kayleb i think i just let my love of all things music and my unconscious bias of thinkin lil wayne aint musical enough get in my way (even thou i constantly argue in favor of hip hop as music on the web)... he is one of the hottest no doubt and as to your valid point that we talked of a person, not a genre, I'd say there isn't any one face of music. Few fans of, for example, Disturbed (a popular rock band) would agree that lil wayne is the face of music. Face of rap? yes. face of hip hop? he is fading (hip hop popularity cycles w the albums) but yes he is.
this song rocked me when i saw it on vma's..i cant get enuf of kanye and his innovative mind..he is the number 1 artist in the 2000's....i give it a 5 rating because taking chances and going against the grain can be a good thing
The new version is FLAME, just like I said it would be! Be sure to check out the remix on YouTube: Kanye West-Love Lockdown Remix (featuring Young Son): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNmFo39utyE
man man i hated it at first but the reason i think i did was because this is so diff then anything he has ever done,i like it though it just might be a classic my nigs
Yeezy is excellent at creating songs with messages. He has to be one of the best artist in today's industry. Without promoting violence, he's still able to crossover into any dimesion and deliver a quality verse or hook on anyone's product. This song is easy on the ears yet energizing to the soul!
