While we aren’t celebrating a birthday here at DJBooth, we have been blessed with a present from Kanye West. More specifically, we have all been blessed with a gift from the (former?) Louis Vuitton Don. Late Wednesday evening, West posted an un-mastered version (note: which has since been updated with a mastered version) of his second single, Heartless, from his forthcoming release, 808’s & Heartbreak, on his regularly-updated blog. In line with the title of the project, the single tells the tale of a man who lost his soul to an ex-lover, all over… yup, you guessed it… an 808 drum pattern. Similar to the Chicago native’s current single, Love Lockdown, the new record features West singing with an auto-tune effect instead of rapping. 808’s & Heartbreak will be released off Def Jam on November 24.

KANYE SNAPPED! I always said I would listen two an entire album of kanye with an auto tune, I guess I'll have to back up my word. Word is he is not rapping at all on this one, and so far I'm loving ever note. This song is classic, and so is the one that just dropped today Cold winter. All Hail the King!

This sounds good at first but there isn’t much to hold on to on the production side and, as a result, the only thing carrying it through (the piano) gets repetitive. The bridge comes as a breath of fresh air! Kanye doesn’t sound bad with the autotune but he also doesn’t sound better! I liked his natural vocals better on the Hey Mamma grammy mix… which reminds me of one of the best production works from him that, compared to this, makes me very pessimistic about this pop effort (he admitted at the listening party that that is what his album is). There’s NOTHING wrong with the autotune nor the musical genre he wants to do, but it must not take away his creativity, which is Kanye’s best virtue!

DJ Yank, I have no problem with kanye, or his new style. I wont sit here and hate, but I rate how good i believe the song is, and if I like it. I dont like this. Graduation was dope (not as good as College Dropout), and I wish he would have stuck to that style. No hatin here, just not a fan of the new style.

Great song. 4* I'm eager to hear the rest of his album. andd without further ado here is my rambling: He likes the autotuner for a few songs; so what. He switched up his style, in a big way, but rumor has it it's not permanent for the whole album. Personally, the auto-tune only comes out strong when he tries to sing the hardest, then it becomes evident. normally, it just sounds like a different tone of voice. One rapper once said that r&b singing is basically rap-rhymes sung: this is proof. state again, 4* rating banger

I peeped the full version yesterday, scooped it from Kanye's blog and it's been in heavy rotation ever since! People who are hating are just missing out. I really feel sorry for y'all. Kanye's on a whole different level right now. (The bridge on this song is the best part). This album is going to be a classic, because those who take chances usually go far. He's taking chances with the music just like John Lennon, Prince & Michael Jackson. You don't know how inspiring it is the see the passion someone has for the art of music? For me, it's really inspiring, as an artist and as a person in general. We live in a time where people are just making songs just because, and we are losing that sacred feeling of a "song" and how powerful it can be to move your soul. Kanye has this....and without him in the game right now, the Urban Music scene and maybe even music period, wouldn't be the same. Classic song from an album I know will that and beyond. And that's just my two cents...and then some.

G_Man, his work [on this album] is going to sound similar. Kanye recorded the entire album during a 3-week studio session in Hawaii. To anyone thinking... "if another artist did this, people would think its wack," you are 100% right. Think about it, though. How cool is that? You [Kanye] are so totally on top of your game that you can come with something out of left field and it works? I think its overly impressive. Kanye is not a rapper any longer; he is a musician.

I fear I don't like the new Kanye West...I appreciate his desire to change and be creative, but the last song I heard by him and this aren't than good to my hears. This has a good melody and a good beat, but I don't like the background music which is very intrusive. I prefer him without the autotune, even if the effect is endurable in this song. It's an overall ok song, after a while it gets boring. I would get bored by this both on the radio and in a club...but I don't think someone would put it in a club, it's not suitable!

Every song I hear off of this album is grabbig my attention, and by the time it' done, I'm satisfied with what I just heard. "Love Lockdown", "Heartless", and "Coldest Winter" this album is already aclassic... and he stepped outside the box on this one but true Kanye fans recognize where this is headed. And he'll be back to rapping ver soon as he stated another album is due in June, I'm guessing it's "Good Ass Job" where he said he'll get back to that "College Dropout" vibe.... s until then, I'll ride to thi with no problem

A few thoughts that make me wish i could separate the paragraphs: I don't listen to Kanye to hear singing, i'll admit that. the autotune does not mean he can sing; he still can't. Honestly Kanye should never be considered a great rapper, either; he has woven together some tight rhymes in his day, but not lately. These songs (off his new album) are hip-hop because of what Kanye did in the past, but he is creating a separate niche for himself. The focus of these tracks is production and music and performance as a whole. his tour over the summer was as much an act as a concert; his love lockdown video changed my perspective of the song, because it combines the elements of production and vocal with a weird-at-first video. There is more than meets the eye behind all of this... As for the 3-week compilation, my favorite rock band 3 doors down recorded an album in 17 days (and called it 17 days) and went platinum with a solid album. I think all albums could be created quickly; Kanye just knew exactly what he wanted so he didn't nitpick over the production or lyrics.. he is confident that this is what he wanted to create, and zipped right through it.

'Heartless' is not bad but it's not one of his best either. For a Kayne West track, it's average to me. Ye has set the bar high for himself in the past so I know he's capable of better tracks. Now if this was anyone else, I would be like 'Yeah this is one of their best'. But Kayne's average tracks are usually better then most people's best. Ya feel me?! This is in rotation tho. I can still vibe to this plus it's not whack either.

i hated kanye's first song love lockdown, but for some reason im kinda feelin this one, i still dont like it for kanye at all, its not his style, even tho its still a pretty good song

Sad Sad Sad....jus sad that this fool can only make money with the auto tunes...Lil Wayne did and then was done with it, Kanye jus keeps doin it and its not that good at all. Only thing workin for him is his beats. The only LEGIT album he made was college dropout. This is obviousy not a 5 mmaybe a 4 if you drunk and listening to it.

I think it lacks some execution on Kanye's part. Mostly everything except the chorus, which sounds kind of weird, is soundind good though. But yeah, the chorus does, in my opinion, through this one off a bit for me.

I like the beat has a VERY different sound at least on this song when he sings he sounds ok in Love Lockdown he sounds terrible

Kanye is very creative. He came into the game with creativity and diversity from the rest of the other rappers. While it can be a gift and a curse, I think this new Kanye isn't as good as the one we all know and love. The autotune I am really tired of being used by rappers. Kanye knows melody though and proves it with this track, as well as "Love Lockdown". The beat here is on point, as well as the hook which is really nicely done. The problem that I have with the track is that his flow in the first two verses are so mundane and dull that it just gets boring, not until later does it get better. I gotta say that "Love Lockdown" is completely wack, the beats pretty tight and addicting, but his singing and verses throughout are soo corny. I'm feelin this joint way better than Lockdown. The album's definitely gonna be hated or loved, it should be an interesting listen.

Ok This is probably the least seemingly-impressive song I ever give a 5-Star rating to. But I have my reasons... Firstly this is the first song of Kanye that I actually LOVE the auto-tune effect, it is a brilliant choice for this song and Kanye's rapping couldn't bring the same emotion into the song. Secondly, it is easy to criticize Kanye's production because it is very simple and repetitive, but that's where the magic lies and thats why Mr.West is such a succesful Artist & Producer. This song is actually pretty daym good! It's similar to Love Lockdown but I think it's better. Almost like he listend to the very unique Love Lockdown and decided to go with a similar feel for this song but improve on it, and he hasn't failed.Album of the year on the way?? I don't know if I would say that but 808’s & Heartbreak is going to be an interesting listen.
