True to his word, enigmatic and temperamental hip-hop genius Kanye West dropped yet another new record on G.O.O.D. (see previous effort Monster), this time in the form of the smoky Devil in a New Dress. Ironically, although Devil was produced by B!nk, it’s the most old school Kanye sounding song we’ve heard in a minute; gone are 808s & Heartbreak’s pop leanings, as are Power’s eclectic roots. Instead, we get a heavily soul sampled beat that Yeezy laces with rhymes about – what else? – a relationship destroyed by a sexy gold-digging female’s desire for, well, Kanye’s gold: “The way you look should be a sin / I’m preaching to the congregation / We love Jesus, but she done learned a lot from Satan.” Dope, often hilarious rhymes? A dope beat? Yep, that’s the Ye I know and love. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, my best guess is that Devil will appear on his upcoming album, whose title, despite all the Dark Twisted Fantasy reports, also hasn’t been officially confirmed. But in a recent UStream session, Kanye said the album will drop in November, so at least we’ve got that.

Before long, Kanye's Twitter account will probably be deactivated (after a few close friends tell him to nix the whole "share your emotions with the world" trip he is on). But, long after that happens will be still have excellent music like this.
No, this isn't Kanye's best offering, nor is it even the best off the new project (see "Power"). I love it, though.

The fact that in less than 72 hours there have been two freestyles over this beat should tell you something.
Old school soul sample Kanye is what made the majority of us fans in the first place and for a two minute track that ends abruptly, I want more now. Whatever momentum anybody else HAD going into the 4th quarter was immediately destroyed once Kanye started this twitter thing, although constantly apologizing to Taylor Swift is a little...much? Either way - dope shit. |

Kanye is making Fridays all the more better, and you know what's even better? He's actually sticking to what he said. Remember when Game said he was going to do something like this during the summer? Yeah....oh and another thing? These tracks are actually good. I even game the Justin Bieber, Raekwon Kanye collab a very good rating.

My favorite song since hearing the original Power record. I love everything about this song. Only problem is it's too short but this could one of the best 2 and a half minute songs I've ever heard. Can't wait till Friday.

Now, if any other artist said they were going to drop a track a week for an extend amount of time, guaranteed a few wouldn't be worth a listen. Kanye on the other hand is making sure his fans know that we are fans for a reason.

I'm more impressed by Power, but I'm enjoying this infinitely more. You can only hear Power so many times, but this has been on repeat all weekend. Goddamn it's good to hear Ye back on his soul sample and dope rhymes ish.
