In Stratosphere, also featured today, DMV rapper Thad Reid uses altitude as a metaphor for success in the music game. Kali? He pretty much just loves his weed. Newly-leaked mixtape cut Higher may not contain any blinding philosophical insights, but those looking a fresh, spacey soundtrack for a stoned or straight vibe-out session could hardly do better. As on previous feature Cali Kali, Statik Selektah mans the boards, cooking up a hazy, sampled groove as the West Coast emcee gives his thoughts on weed, women and more weed. Massachusetts emcee Termanology handles guest duties, waxing poetic about his favorite smokable substance and painting a lyrical portrait of his ideal woman (“a curvy, curly Puerto Rican Shirley Temple”) on the front end. If Kali and Term’s woozy musings leave you hungry for more, stay tuned – the headliner’s latest mixtape, The Coast, is scheduled to hit the ‘net before the week is out.

Statik Selektah sets the mood with his production expertise and Kali/Term take it from there. Seriously, I cannot find anything bad to say about the record. All positive, play it again.

Statik's beat is nice, Kali's flow isn't the best, but his wordplay makes up for it. Termanology's flow is more enjoyable.

and yes statik get get get it man this is automatic classis with a fiery flow from this guy. and kali well hey where the hell you been at bro. you straight to and that flow is pretty sweet aswell but i dont hear many differences between you and many artist though. regardless this track is banger!! |

Statik Selektah knows how to craft some of the sickest beats. I swear, every time he produces a track it is always something different and unique. This was no exception. Cali had some good word play, but the hook ruined this track's chances at replay success for me.
I'm having a hard time finding Termanology on this track. Production can only do so much, and unfortunately for me it is the only thing keeping this track together. Decent lyrics plus wack ass hook with a side of impressive production = 2.5 |

loving the statik, he has in a matter of months become one of my favourite producers. loving kali's flow here and technology did aight too. 3.5 but ill round it "higher"

Per usual, I'd probably like this better if I was high, but given my current state of sobriety I'm still digging it. Statik's beat, solid rhymes, what's to complain about.

This had the potential to be a lot nicer for me. The production is right on the brink of being perfect. I usually love Selektah's stuff so I am slightly dissapointed. Having said that, lyrically this is dope.
